Down on the Farm: 05-20-2010

AAA Fresno Grizzlies defeated the Nashville Sounds 6-2:

Brock Bond- 2 for 2, 3B, BB. BA= .302.
Brett Pill- 1 for 4, HR(4). BA= .277.
Jesus Guzman- 2 for 3, HR(4). BA= .262.
Joe Martinez- 7.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 14/4. ERA= 3.66.
Osiris Matos- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 2.45.

Haven't called Bond's name in the highlights for awhile. The Fresno bullpen pitchers better stay on their toes. They have a great chance to get called up in the near future if the SF bullpen continues down the path it is currently on.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Erie Sea Wolves 5-1:

Darren Ford- 1 for 3, 3B, BB. BA= .257.
Brandon Crawford- 1 for 3, HR(4), BB. BA= .250.
Craig Clark- 5.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.46.
Tony Pena- 3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 1.09.

Ford is hitting .316 with a .447 OBP over his last 10 games. Crawford is hitting .343 over his last 10. Tony Pena had a dominant, extended appearance. Don't be shocked if we see him in SF before the season is over!

High A San Jose Giants edged the Visalia Rawhide 2-1 in 10 innings:

Ehire Adrianza- 2 for 3, SB(9). BA= .226.
Aaron King- 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 7.57.
Joe Paterson- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 0.82.

Paterson must be on some kind of rehab assignment. He wasn't pitching badly for Fresno. Maybe King got his feet back on the ground with a decent outing here.

Low A Greenville Drive smashed the Augusta Greenjackets 11-4:

Tommy Joseph- 1 for 3, 2B. BA= .217.
Evan Crawford- 2 for 2, 2 BB. BA= .273.
Chris Heston- 2.1 IP, 10 H, 11 R, 2 BB, 1 K. ERA= 6.81.
Brian Irving- 2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 4.15.
Jose Valdez- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.93.

Evan Crawford continues to hit. Tommy Joseph has had a tough time starting with a 0 for 8 in the 18 inning game. Heston has been either very good or very bad. Valdez seems to be turning into a very good pitcher.

  1. I read somewhere that Guzman has been seeing time around the field. Have you heard about that? Are they making him into util-bat player?

Ooo, Pena dealing! Giants does seem to specialize in high K pitchers lately, I like that. Hopefully Denny Bautista is the latest reclaimation project done good, he was dealing the heat the other night!

Too bad our hitters haven't been doing it, other than Belt and Perez.

Thanks again, keep up the great reportage and cogent comments!
