Game Wrap 05-29-2010: GIants 12 D'Backs 1

Lots of good things happened in the game last evening, but the big news was Buster Posey getting called up and giving every indication that it's for the last time in his career. It wasn't his MLB debut, but is sure felt like it, and it sure felt good! Key lines:

Andres Torres- 0 for 3, 2 BB, SB(8). If Torres did this every game, he'd have a .000 BA and a .400 OBP.....and be a good leadoff hitter!

Freddy Sanchez- 1 for 3, 2 BB. I don't think there is any question that Freddy has been a spark since coming off the DL. Maybe the trade and contract were worth it after all?

Pablo Sandoval- 3 for 5, 2B. Pablo seems to have gotten inspired by actually having some runners with speed on the bases ahead of him.

Aubrey Huff- 2 for 3, SF. BA= .291. Huff hasn't supplied the power the Giants were hoping for, but he's been a steady performer both on offense and defense.

Juan Uribe- 3 for 3, HR(7), BB. I love watching Uribe's facial expressions in the dugout. He had a great game last night both on the field and in the dugout!

Buster Posey- 3 for 4. As Kruk pointed out, his swing is built more for BA than for power, but ask yourself what the likelihood of getting 3 RBI singles in one game from Bowker, Nate or just about anybody else on the team not named Pablo? On the other hand, this wasn't a typical game for a lot of Giants' hitters.

Jonathan Sanchez- 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 7K's. ERA= 2.90. Sanchez fought through shaky control and a very small strike zone to hold the D'Backs at bay for 5 innings while the Giants hitters took care of the rest. This W partially makes up for the 3 he should have gotten against San Diego.

Bullpen(Romo, Bautista, Runzler)- 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K's. Not that they had to be, but the bullpen was lights out after Sanchez' departure.

The win improves the Giants record to 26-22 keeping them 2.5 games back of the Padres who beat the Nats 4-2 in Petco to bring their record to 29-20. The Dodgers fell back to 2 games off the Padres pace at 27-22 with a 11-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies who stayed 0.5 games behind the Giants and 3 games behind the Padres at 26-23. The D'Backs got pushed farther into the hole in last place at 20-30, 9.5 games out.

Around the League:

Congrats to Roy Halladay on the Perfecto. That's the second one this year coming on the heels of on by Mark Buehrle last year. Something's up in MLB, and it ain't hitting!

Kendry Morales of the Angels hit a walk-off grand slam and then broke his ankle jumping on home plate. He will require surgery and is out for an indefinite period. Bad news for my Savvy Vets fantasy baseball team!

  1. It was a combined effort from a lot of the players!!

Also, does anyone else agree with me that when Uribe hits a home run, the way he drops his bat sort of looks like the Willie Mays statue in front of AT&T Park??
