Matt Cain made a statement tonight. The Giants have more than one ace! Man what a performance from Matt "Hoss" Cain. Totally dominating the D'Backs to the point where the D'Back TV announcers were gushing and quite obviously rooting for him to finish it off in the 9'th inning. And Dang if I didn't get back from my meeting in San Diego too late to move Cainer into my fantasy team the Savvy Vets' rotation! The Giants also seem to have found a functional combination at the top of the lineup. The result was a 5-0 shellacking of the Arizona Diamondbacks in a game that wasn't that close. Key lines:
Andres Torres- 1 for 3, 2B, BB, SB(7). Now THAT's what a leadoff batter is supposed to do! 2 runs scored for Torres.
Freddy Sanchez- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. And THAT's what a #2 hitter is supposed to do!
Pablo Sandoval- 2 for 3, HR(4), SF. And THAT is what a #3 hitter is supposed to do!
Matt Cain- 9 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K's. ERA= 2.50. A vintage Matt Cain performance. This team has an ace alright and his name just might be Matt Cain!
With the W, the Giants gained a game on the Padres who dropped one to the Nats in Petco 5-3. The Giants 25-22 record puts them 2.5 games behind the 28-20 Pads. Meanwhile, the Dodgers moved to 1 game back at 27-21 with a 5-4 win over the Rockies who slipped 0.5 games behind the Giants into 4'th place at 25-23. With the L, Arizona remains 8.5 games off the pace at 20-29. Jonathan Sanchez takes on the Snakes tomorrow evening.
