Game Wrap 05-06-2010: Giants 6 Marlins 3

Matt Cain carried a no-no into the 6'th inning and got some offensive support as the Giants finally closed out a sweep defeating the Marlins in game 3 of the series 6-3. Key lines:

Aaron Rowand- 2 for 4, 3B. BA= .328. Rowand continues to be a force at the top of the lineup.

Edgar Renteria- 0 for 1. Suffered a recurrence/aggravation of the groin pull and was lifted for Downs who pinch-hit his second AB. Time for the DL? Who gets the callup?

Pablo Sandoval- 0 for 4. BA= .309. Panda is in a mini-slump.

Mark DeRosa- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .205. Good to see DeRosa get in on the action.

Nate Schierholtz- 3 for 3, HR(1), IBB, SB(3). How great is this? Nate making major contributions from the 8 hole!

Matt Cain- 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 2.79. The final line doesn't really show how dominant Cainer was as he lost the no-hitter with 2 outs in the 6'th inning. He allowed the first two runners to reach base in the 8'th and one ended up scoring on an eventual sac fly.

Giants go to 17-10. Were it not for some fluky stuff on the LA/SD road trip, they might be challenging for the best record in baseball! They now go to NY where they will start Sanchez, Wellemeyer and Timmy against Pelfrey, Santana and Perez. NY has been tough on the Giants in recent years. This one will be a challenge!

  1. Nice way to start off the east coast road trip by sweeping the Marlins! I still got nervous though when things started to tense up in the 8th and 9th innings

  2. i win the rentawreck pool

with wellemeyer going back to the rotation, they may call up a righty...dont need another position player

nate is seeing the ball really well...makes sense to bat derosa in front of him

saturday's game is a wash...i would urge bochy to rest some people...like panda, who is pressing and hasnt had one yet.

the mets are playing good ball...wont be surprised if the team ends up losing the first 2...im sure that timmy will be on a mission on sunday

  4. I'm thinking if the Giants can steal one of the first two games, then they have a better than even chance to take the series with Timmy going Sunday. It's a funny game though. There is a reason why they play the games. Tonight's contest could be a great game or a blowout for either side. Pelfrey and Sanchez both tend to blow hot and cold.

I agree with you, Bacci. Time to give Panda a rest.

I also agree that the callup will likely be a pitcher. Has Joaquin been down long enough? It seems like Bochy lost faith in him for the time being. They would have to DFA someone to make room for Denny Bautista. Maybe Joey Martinez?
