The Giants used staged a rare 3 run rally in the bottom of the 7'th inning to pick up Barry Zito who had a somewhat shaky, but adequate start and gain a game in the NL West standings. Key lines:
Freddy Sanchez- 2 for 4, 2 BB, CS. BA= .250. Nice game for Freddy even though he was able to score on only 1 of his 4 times on base.
Aubrey Huff- 3 for 4, HR(5). BA= .281. Huff has proven to be a nice addition at a very cheap price so far.
Juan Uribe- 2 for 4. BA= .272. Second two-hit night in a row for Uribe.
Barry Zito- 6.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 5 BB, 3 K's. Technically a QS, although a WHIP of almost 2 isn't really quality pitching. 3 DP's always helps though.
Guillermo Mota- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's. ERA= 1.13. Mota has helped stabilize a reeling bullpen.
Brian Wilson- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. Wilson seems to have regained his footing as the closer.
The GIants improve to 24-22 to get within 3.5 games of the first place Padres who lost to St Louis in a game I attended 8-3. The Dodgers lost to the Cubbies 1-0 to stay 2 games off the Padres' pace. Colorado trounced the hapless D'Backs 8-2 to stay 0.5 games up on the Giants while D'Backs sank to 20-28. 3.5 games separate the top 4 teams with Arizona bringing up the rear 8.5 games behind.
The Giants start a series vs the D'Backs at home with Cain, Sanchez and Wellemeyer getting the starting calls. Hopefully they play them better at home than in Arizona.
