Down on the Farm: 05-16-2010

AAA Fresno Giants vs Oklahoma City Redhawks postponed, I assume due to weather in Tornado Alley.

AA Altoona Curve edged the Richmond Flying Squirrels 7-6:

Brandon Crawford- 2 for 3, 2B, 2 BB. BA= .242.
Conor Gillaspie- 3 for 4, 2B, 3B, BB. BA= .218.
Darren Ford- 0 for 4, BB, 2 SB(13). BA= .240.
Clayton Tanner- 2.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 1 K. ERA= 3.93.
Rafael Cova- 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Tony Pena- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.27.

The Squirrels committed 5 errors, but they only accounted for 1 unearned run. Tanner had his second rough start in a row.

High A The San Jose Giants extinguished the Bakersfield Blaze 6-0:

Juan Perez- 3 for 4, 2B, 3B. BA= .341.
Francisco Peguero- 2 for 3, 3B, HR(3), SB(17). BA= .287.
Eric Surkamp- 9 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 2.05.

A dominant start for Surkamp who now has a 15 inning scoreless streak going back to his last start. Perez just keeps inflating his BA and Peguero is having a solid season.

Low A The Augusta Greenjackets outlasted the Charleston Riverdogs 1-8 in 18 innings:

Evan Crawford- 4 for 6, HBP, SB(6). BA= .255.
Brian Salsbury- 8 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.40.
Jose Casilla- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.71.
Jose Valdez- 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.11.

The two teams had a total of 26 hits in the game with just the one run scoring. All of the Greenjackets' 12 hits were singles. Cavan, Anders and Lollis had 2 hits each with Lollis scoring the winning run without the benefit of an RBI.

  1. Belt, Perez and Peguero in SJ is very exciting. Now if Neal, Kieschnick, Joseph, Noonan and Crawford can pick it up as well, we will be very happy in SF in the next year or two...

  2. im shocked that they even played an 18 inning game in low a

even more shocked that there wasnt an error until the 18th

the sally isnt a pitchers league, so that game is a total fluke

isnt surkamp getting old for the cal league?

  3. The SAL is at least neutral with a lean toward pitching, but yeah, I'd say a game with 26 hits and the first run scores in the 18'th is a fluke.

  4. The Sally league does lean toward pitching, and Lake Olmstead Stadium in particular is definitely a pitcher's park (although I didn't notice if this was a home game or not).
