Just two games down on the farm tonight as the entire Cal League had the night off and Augusta Greenjackets got rained out. The bats really came alive in the other two games though.
AAA Fresno Grizzlies mauled the Colorado Sky Sox 14-4:
Brock Bond- 3 for 6. BA= .319.
Ryan Rohlinger- 2 for 6, 2B. BA= .329.
Buster Posey- 1 for 3, 2B, 2 BB. BA= .333.
Joe Borchard- 5 for 6, 2B, 3B, HR(5). BA= .367.
Eric Hacker- 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 1.63.
Yep, you read that right. Borchard hit for the cycle. I wonder if he could play LF for the Giants? Buster Posey played 1B in this game. Not sure how significant that is. Impressive start for Hacker as Colorado Springs is a notoriously difficult place to pitch.
AA Richmond Flying Squirrels soared over the Altoona Curve 9-5:
Nick Noonan 3 for 5, HR(2). BA= .241.
Brandon Crawford- 2 for 3, 3B, 2 BB. BA= .250.
Thomas Neal- 2 for 5. BA= .233.
Clay Timpner- 3 for 3, HBP. BA= .468.
Conor Gillaspie- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .224.
David Mixon- 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 2.51.
Nick Noonan hit his second HR in as many days. He is now 7 for his last 15 AB's over his last 4 games, so hopefully this is the start of something real good. Brandon Crawford is 5 for 9 with 3 BB's over his last 3 games to raise his BA 50 pts.

i believe that hacker should be starting to get some serious looks from scouts around now
ReplyDeletelots of teams need pitching, and the giants would be dealing from strength
the flying squirrels are leading the eastern in attendance...record at home is now 10-1...support from the locals does mean something
and decker continues to prove that he can win at all levels...cant keep him on the farm for very much longer
Noonan's HR was listed as an in-the-parker on a pop up to shallow left...Not sure what happened, but it doesn't sound like he drilled the ball.
ReplyDeleteMy mornings are so much brighter when I see that Neal, BCrawford, Posey, and Noonan are hitting well. Hope is a wonderful thing - and something we haven't had for 6 years or so.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments everybody! I didn't see the inside the park note on Noonan. I'm thinking the 7 for 15 in his last 4 games is more significant than the HR anyway.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid if we traded Hacker, it would be for the proverbial PTBNL or cash.
Out of Posey, Neal, Crawford and Noonan, we need at least two of those to eventually make an impact at the major league level. Looks like Posey is as close to a sure thing as it gets, so that leaves one out of the other 3. Maybe we could add Roger Kieschnick to the list? Then we need either Peguero or Ford to come through and be ready to play CF when Rowand is done. Hey we can all dream, can't we?
The Giants have had hope in recent years if you knew where to look for it. Unfortunately, many Giants fans, at least the ones on-line, didn't know where to look.
ReplyDeleteAgree with DrB on Hacker, though if he ever figures things out - and it would take a full season of results and a high K/9 and K/BB ratio - he might hack it in the majors.
I would add Kieschnick to the list, as well as RafRod and Adrianza, though those two will be more at the tail-end in terms of coming up and having an impact.
Sounds like the Giants intend to have Crawford be their post-Renteria solution, so he should get chances. I think Noonan is their post-Franchez solution - Burris's injuries, much like Frandsen, cost him his window of opportunity with the Giants I think, unless he can compete with Crawford for the SS spot, as I'm still not sold on Crawford.
As I've noted since the off-season, I think Noonan is the breakout prospect for 2010. He finally figured out professional pitching in late 2009 (or finally physically caught up) and the bat discipline that he reportedly had when we drafted him finally showed up. I think he, at the moment, is the most likely to make an impact at the major league level for us, out of the group you listed. But he might not be ready until 2012 or mid-2011 at the earliest.
I would also add Conor Gillaspie to the list now as well. I like what I've seen of his stats this season, maybe he's finally figuring out things himself, his stats were not that good last season given all the hype about his bat.
