Down on the Farm: 04-30-2010

Lots of good stuff on the farm tonight:

AAA Fresno Grizzlies blanked the Sacramento River Cats 5-0:

Brock Bond- 3 for 4, 3B. BA= .304.
Mike McBryde- 2 for 4, HR(3). BA= .283.
Horacio Ramirez- 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.78.
Henry Sosa- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 1.35.

McBryde is hitting .389/.405/.750 with 3 HR's over the last 10 games. Bond is hitting .343/.452/.429 over the last 10. A strong outing with the 3 K's for Sosa.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels whitewashed the Bowie Baysox 2-0:

Nick Noonan- 2 for 3, 2B. BA= .211.
Clay Timpner- 2 for 3, 2 2B. BA= .405.
Michael MacDonald- 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K's. ERA= 2.54.
Rafael Cova- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K's, Save(7). ERA= 0.00.

At this point, Timpner should be considered an organizational player. MacDonald probably is an organizational player too, but has pitched really well so far. Cova could be in the mix for a future bullpen role. Noonan is quite young for the level. We'll see how he does as the weather warms up and he gets more experience.

San Jose Giants crushed the Modesto Nuts 8-1:

Juan Perez- 2 for 5. BA= .328.
Francisco Peguero- 2 for 4, HR(1). BA= .274.
Brandon Belt- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .438.
Drew Biery- 1 for 3, 2B, SF. BA= .289.
Johnny Monell- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .230.
James Simmons- 2 for 4, 2B, SB(2). BA= .225.
Justin Fitzgerald- 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 1.06.
Ben Wilshire- 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. BA= 3.65.
Jason Stoffel- 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00.

Wow! Where to start? Practically the whole lineup had a highlight night! Peguero's bat seems to be heating up. He also threw out a runner at 1B. Good to see the Giants convert a college closer to starter. Even if he ends up in the pen at the MLB level, the starting experience will make him a more complete pitcher. I would advocate some stretching out of Stoffel somewhere along the way too.

Augusta Greenjackets blotted out the Hagerstown Suns 14-6:

Ryan Cavan- 4 for 5, HR(1), BB. BA= .292.
Chris Dominguez- 3 for 6, HR(4). BA= .261
Luke Anders- 3 for 5, HR(5), SF. BA= .300.
Tommy Joseph- 2 for 3, HR(4), 2 BB, SF. BA= .263.
Sharlon Schoop- 2 for 4, 2 2B, BB. BA= .250.
Kyle Vazquez- 5.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 1.93.
Chris Gloor- 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.46.

Tommy Joseph is the big story in this game. He's had an impressive first month of his professional career. I'm starting to really like Anders as a hitter. He's old for the level, though. It can't be a good sign for Schoop that he's back in low A ball. Gloor has been a very effective jack of all trades in the Greenjackets' bullpen.
