The 4 Giants representatives to the All-Star Game unleashed a ferocious attack on the AL squad for an 8-0 win, the 3'rd consecutive year the NL has won. Key Lines:
Melky Cabrera- 2 for 3, HR. Game MVP!!
Buster Posey- 0 for 2, BB.
Pablo Sandoval- 1 for 2, 3B. Cleared the loaded bases with 2 outs.
Matt Cain- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.
David Wright- 0 for 2.
Giants hitters directly contributed to 7 of the 8 runs scored by the NL squad. Just a guess, but I'm thinking all the furor about ballot stuffing made these Giants want to prove they were deserving, and BTW, what a way to reward the fans who voted them in! Holy Toledo! What an astonishing performance! Except us Giants fans knew they were deserving and capable of this kind of performance. Take THAT haters!
Oh, and one more thing......home field advantage in the World Series, baby!!

The should have given the MVP to giant fans for gift wrapping the NL home field advantage
ReplyDeletedont mind that mets fans were upset about what happened to wright, or dickey...they have been crapped on even more than dodger fans
ReplyDeletewhat bothered me was the national press and alderson.
alderson's tweets regarding giant's fans were juvenile.
watched the crook begrudgingly give melky his mvp award. this man has a serious problem with the giants org.
forget the trade market...new playoff system makes it almost impossible to get affordable help...no way are the powers that be gonna allow another wheeler.
and finally...melky...thx for everything...you have been a joy to watch...please, no matter what the bums offer you...dont go...they are evil...they will make your madre cry...and not in a good way
Melky is sending serious signals that he loves SF and wants to stay. Giants need to get him extended before he hits FA because once he starts getting offers.....well, let's just say Melky gonna get paid! I think he is still very willing to give a hometown discount in return for a sign the Giants have faith in him and want him long term. The hometown discount goes out the window once he hits FA and he is gonna get PAID!
DeleteI don't agree that the trade market is dead. I did a review of potentially available hitters and there are actually quite a few that should be available for much less than a top prospect. Will post something on it before the break is over.
One more thing about Melky: I defended the trade on this site, and over on fangraphs to all the people who were proclaiming that he was coming off a career year and all signs pointed to regression. The people who were saying that forgot about the conditioning issue and forgot about the normal career trajectory. I even drafted Melky for my own fantasy team. So far, he has far surpassed even my own relatively high expectations for him.
DeleteMelky, Posey, Sandoval with a splas of Pagan. I think that's a darn nice threesome+ to build around for at least 2013 and 2014 to say nothing of this year which I have a feeling is going to extend into the post-season. They don't need a Beltran. A modest LF/1B with some power is what they need to put them over the top. Getting Timmy straightened out would help too.
Agreed Doc. Props for defending the Melky trade at the time.
DeleteThe internet mood was pretty boisterous that the Giants had no idea how to value pitching and, more or less, gave Sanchez away.
I agree on signing Melky. This is not Winn. Worth taking a chance on. Hamilton is not coming this way. Dodgers are going to lay $300 million on the guy. Let's get the guy(s) we can get. Melky is one of them.
Dodger's $300 is for Hamilton, to clarify. Though they'd probably give Melky $125.
DeleteLet's lock Melky up, if he's willing.
Hamilton is a great player when he's healthy. He's not always healthy. I hope the Dodgers do lay $300 M on him! The Dodgers have had some spectacular FA failures over the years. That would have the makings of the most spectacular one yet!
DeleteSaid it early and often - Sign Melky. Saw it in Spring training, the guy is a hitter and now at the MLB level have seen how complete 4.5 tool player he is. Perfect fit for Willie Mays Plaza.
DeleteThought we could have had Melky for 3/$30M in April.
Thought we could have had Melky for 3/$45M after great May/June.
Now maybe 5/$80. Sabes WTF are you waiting for? 6/$125M?
Seeing Melky bring his whole family to the MVP present brought a little tear to my eye too. Coming all the way from the Dominican and going thru all his MLB ups and downs to ASG MVP - he earned it and his family too. I think Melky is a family guy and the Giants fans have adopted him as family. He feels it and knows it. So I do think he will give the Giants a hometown discount - but only if Sabes gets off his rear and negotiates sooner than later.
Put down the cool-aid and drink some Melk, Sabes.
I agree that Sabean now needs to get active with trying to sign/extend Melky. Still IMO, though it cost money, you can't blame him one iota for waiting a few months to see if melky was a guy to sign LONG TERM...A new player for him..in a new ball park and town...with new teamates.....coming off ONE fantastic year......But pretty much obvious that it is a perfect match between player, team and ballpark..and time for Sabean to start talking contract to the AGENT.....Now that is where it gets sticky....Melky might be a great guy and maybe he might give a discount..sounds that way....but maybe he also has an agent that will try to convince him to maximize his earnings by playing the year out and letting 10-15 teams clamor for him at FA..The business of baseball...
DeleteSteveVA
how stupid is fox...btw
ReplyDeletealthough melky can understand english ok, he isnt comfortable speaking...and they chose not to get him an translator
Fox is owned and operated by a psychopath. What do you expect? It all starts at the top.
DeleteTruer words were never typed.
DeleteNice to see Panda get two 96-98 fastballs and then wait on a good curve and lash it to the wall. That is professional hitting and broke Verlander's back.
ReplyDeleteAmazing chain of events. I think I voted with my family till our fingers got sore. I'll be doing it again next year but I didn't vote for Belt or Crawford this year and unless they turn it around, I won't next year.
ReplyDeleteWhat is truly amazing is the abuse the Giants' players took from the midwestern and eastern media services during all those days upto the game. EVERYDAY our guys were being hammered with that it was almost criminal on the way the Giants' players got there, but how did they feel about it? EVERYDAY upto and even during the game (Cain & Rosenballs) our guys were made to look like they did something wrong. What developed in that game is storybook tales and karma. Now, the Giants' Organization and its fanbase should be applauded for the devotion shown to the players. Just like Pablo said after the game,"We owed this to our fans." while speaking of the voting to an east coast reporter.
I think MLB and this country of baseballs fans owe the Giants an apology because they doubted the dedication and love the fans have for this team.
T-Box
i never vote.
ReplyDeletehowever, after listening to and reading the blather about giants fans stuffing the ballot boxes...even after they all played better than everyone on the field..except for trout (who is turning into a bonds like player in that, when he is on the field...you gotta watch) and that included erin bigboobs....im voting...for everyone on the team....hope whitey gets a bench spot...im voting for him too....and im gonna forward every ballot to sandy (the baby) alderson
in regards melky....there is a doc about baseball in the dr opening on friday. not sure why this doc is getting more play than prior ones, but it may have to do with mlb officials being much more blunt on their perceptions of the kids from central and sa.
i dont like the plantation system. i think it is cold, heartless and does a lot more harm than good. most of the academies are a joke.
i think that melky came through the system as a bright eyed kid, and got smacked around by many of the powers that be. as a result, he has become a lot more cynical...and more power to him
is he happy in sf? im sure he is. but he also knows its a biz. i watched his post...where he thanked everyone from god to his atty. he aint no dummy.
he will talk to the giants....but he is going fa.
