This one was more of a battle than it probably should have been, although Bud Norris can be one tough customer when he's on. Glass half empty: Giants should have buried this inferior team. Glass half full: Giants swept a series they should have swept and head out on the road with a small first place cushion to work with. On a day when Melky was off for the birth of his child and Riot was apparently not available for some unknown reason, I'll take the latter. Key Lines:
Gregor Blanco- 1 for 4, BB. BA= .252. I figure if Blanco gets on base twice or more in a game, he's done his job. His efforts got the Giants 1 of their runs today.
Buster Posey- 3 for 4. BA= .297. Buster drove in single runs with 2 of his 3 hits.
Matt Cain- 6.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 9/1. ERA= 2.56. Not to be a Debbie Downer here, but Cain will likely never pitch a better game than the perfecto.
Bullpen-2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. Bochy was like a kid in a candy store with the mixing and matching today. Worked to perfection except for a HBP by Affeldt.
The Dodgers got clobbered by those Pesky, Pesky Padres to fall 1.5 games off the Giants pace while the Cubbies completed a sweep of the D'Backs who fell 6.5 games behind. Something funny going on in LA. Kemp DNP. Dodgers website said it was was just to keep him fresh, but how fresh does dude need to be after missing the better part of a couple of months? Billz goes down with elbow pain. They might end up having to empty out their farm to get a pitcher.
Giants have a day off then start a 6 game road trip to Hotlanta and Philly. Barry Zito starts things off on Tuesday evening against the Braves who are as hot as this summer's weather in Georgia.

A pluperfect game is better than a perfect game.
ReplyDeleteorg keeps the huff tease up...why?
ReplyDeletethats all i got
dont feel bad for kemp or the bums
Huff tease?
DeleteListen, if he hits when he gets promoted to Richmond, I'm going to start believing that he can be a major leaguer!
Look, Burriss is on this team. We're thin. There may be a taker for Huff. For a D-level prospect, we take on 99% of the contract, that sort of thing. Let's not cut him loose until we need to.
BTW Bacci,
DeleteThere's a link over on Fangraphs to Yardbarker and a pretty funny exchange between Bryce Harper and Ozzie Guillen, two guys who seem like they deserve each other. Seems Ozzie said something to the ump about pine tar on Harper's bat. Next AB, Harper, um, pointed his bat at the Marlins dugout as he approached the plate. Let's just say the pointing thing brought back memories of Aaron Rowand and his batting stance. LOL!!
As of Sunday Midnight The Giants had more base hits than the Yankees, but it's clear that homers, not hurling is why Yankees have best record in baseball and G's are only 9 games over .500. Of Giants 791 hits, only 52 were homers, 30 triples, 139 doubles, 570 singles and 328 rbi's. But by comparison, Yankees have 787 hits, 142 homers, 9 triples, 155 doubles, 481 singles, but 415 rbi's. Giants era, 3.53, Yankees era, 3.81. Ian.
ReplyDeleteWell, the Yankees have that short porch in RF and then load up on LH bats, to the comparison is pretty bogus, if you ask me. You might want to go look up ParK HR effects between Yankee Stadium and AT&T. In addition, Giants play 21 away games in Petco, Dodger Stadium and Oakland which all suppress HR's.
DeleteThat's a total of 102 games for the Giants in parks that suppress HR's fairly severely while the Yankees not only play in a severly HR friendly home park but also Fenway and Camden Yards which are also HR friendly. the other two parks in their division, Toronto and Tampa are close to neutral.
