Down on the Farm: 7/24/2012

AAA  Las Vegas 51's defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 4-3:

Brett Pill(1B)- 2 for 4, HR(5).  BA= .286.
Ryan Lollis(CF)- 3 for 4.  BA= .295.
Yusmeiro Petit(RHP)- 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 3.27.

Does Pill have his groove back enough to come back to SF and play 1B every day?

AA  Bowie Baysox beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels 3-2:

Gary Brown(CF)- 1 for 4, SB(28).  BA= .289.
Daniel Mayora(3B)- 2 for 3, 2B, BB. BA= .307.
Luke Anders(DH)- 1 for 3, HR(1).  BA= .214.
Chris Gloor(LHP)- 7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.99.

Anders moves up from SJ, probably as strictly on organizational player.  Is Gloor a sleeper?  Big lefty, but I've heard his velocity does not measure up to his size.

High A  San Jose Giants extinguished the Bakersfield Blaze 12-0:

Bobby Haney(2B)- 4 for 5, 2 2B, BB.  BA= .329.
Joe Panik(SS)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .266.
Jarrett Parker(CF)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .246.
Andrew Susac(C)- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .220.
Jarrad Page(DH)- 2 for 4, 2B, BB.  BA= .103.
Jack Snodgrass(LHP)- 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 4.42
Josh Osich(LHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.91.

Nice game to pad some stat lines with.  Page comes over from the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.  27 yo.

Low A  Lexington Legends edged the Augusta Greenjackets 4-3:

Kelby Tomlinson(SS)- 2 for 5.  BA= .228.
Clayton Blackburn(RHP)- 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K's, GO/AO= 11/2.  ERA= 2.71.

Hard to not get impatient for Blackburn to move up.

Short Season  Everett Aquasox edged the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 3-2:

Charles Jones(CF)- 2 for 4.  BA= .232.
Mac Williamson(DH)- 1 for 4, 2B.  BA= .250.
Kendry Flores(RHP)- 5.1 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 4.05.
Mason McVay(LHP)- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 0.82.

Williamson moves up from Rookie ball.  This will be a truer measure of the early returns on him.

Rookie AZL  Giants were idle.

DSL  Yankees1 downed the Giants 4-3:

Richard Rodriguez(2B)- 2 for 4.  BA= .247.
Moises Mesa(LF)- 3 for 3, 2B.  BA= .378.
Hengerber Medina(3B)- 2 for 4.  BA= .328.
Luis Pino(RHP, 17 yo)- 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

First start, 2'nd appearance for Pino.

  1. Yes, and nice that Mac got a double already.

I know, right?, why not move up Blackburn? But the Giants seem to like to keep guys at the level he is at for his first full pro season, it seems.

  2. Oh no, but not too unexpected: Surkamp getting TJS and given the year recovery period and slow return of velocity, he's essentially out until the 2014 season. Your thought of picking up Zito's option, DrB, is looking better and better.

  3. So who do we expect for September call-ups?

    Peggs? Noonan? Connor? Culby? Dominguez?

How about pitchers? I really don't see any on the 40 worth calling up...

    1. I don't think we'll see too many callups. Pegs if he's healthy, Roger K if he's healthy. Gillaspie, Culby, Runzler. The only guy I see being added to the 40 man is possibly Petit.
