Game Wrap 8/5/2012: Giants 8 Rockies 3

Timmy pitched well on a warm afternoon day in an extreme hitters ballpark, and the Giants offense put the hurt on the Reeling Rockies one more time to complete a sweep of that hapless team.    Key Lines:

Melky Cabrera- 2 for 5, 3B(10), SB(12), Assist(home).  BA= .352.  Melky's hit parade is back in line.  10 triples!

Buster Posey- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .327.  Buster continues to be the hottest hitter on the planet.

Hunter Pence- 2 for 5, 2 2B.  BA= .267.  Hunter broke out a bit in this one, but still looks like he's bailing at the plate on every swing.

Marco Scutaro- 1 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .277.  Where is Scoots going to play when Pablo comes back?  Gotta think Crawford is going to lose some PT.

Hector Sanchez- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .285.  The Hector had a good game even if he did not figure into the scoring.

Tim Lincecum- 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 5 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 5.43.  OK, the line is a little ugly, but the results were positive.

Sergio Romo- 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 2.10.  Encouraging to see Sergio come in and pitch shut down ball after a few rough outings.  His slider definitely does not break as much in the rarified air of Coors Field, but he was tough today.

Dodgers won a see-saw battle with the Cubbies 7-6 to stay 0.5 games behind the NL West leading Giants.  Phillies topped the D'Backs 5-4 to drop the snakes to 4 games back.

I'm off to see the SJ Giants play in San Berdoo in a few minutes.

  1. G's did what they had to do v/s a AA team. If they can get a split from the Cards I'll be happy.Sadly, a split may not keep them ahead of feisty Dodgers. At least G's picked up 2 games on D'Backs. Ian.

    1. Well, the Dodgers get the AA team for their next 3 games so, yeah, a split with the Cards might not be enough to keep the Giants in first place.

    2. I think Pence is about to break out soon his at bats were much better today.

  2. Not a second of worry about Pence. Gotta disagree with Doc: Pence's ABs have not been bad leading into this game. The guy is a pro, and brings phenomenal presence and attitude to the Giants.

Wouldn't have any problem with Craw losing ABs to Scutaro. Probably a good idea. Push him.

Also would love Hector to pick up ABs while Belt loses them.

Time for the young guys to come correct. If they can't get themselves straight in the regular season, they will be absolutely lost when facing playoff pitching.

    1. I think Pence is a tremendous natural athlete and hitter who can often get away with terrible mechanics at the plate.

    2. Kelly - I'm with ya in Belp losing ABS to Hector/Posey. Heck, I also think he should lose ABs to Scuturo (If Panda can play 1B) and Pill..IMO, Belt should be used as nothing but a 2010 Ishikawa--a sub and late inning defensive guy.....I don't really care abiout HIS development right now, I care about putting out the best team to WIN THIS YEAR, and I don't think that includes Belt..

    3. I am/was a big supporter of Belt in the past. However, I am losing faith in him FAST. If he is such a head-case that he cannot handle the jimmy-jacking that naturally occurs at the MLB-level, then he is will not be able to handle the rigors of the game moving forward anyway. He has been given a TON of chances, and he has, in return, laid a TON of eggs.

I am still somewhat hopefull that he may someday "get there", but right now, we are in a pennant chase, and if is not producing, than he sits.

      Sorry kid.

  3. Please, enough with "Moving Forward"it's *&^%$#@ redundant. Pence' inability to go yard, unlike Buster who is twice the player and gets 9,800,000 less, is going to hurt the G's when they play major league teams. Ian, Vancouver.

    1. Ian please, just stop comparing Pence and Posey's salaries. We all know Buster is a better player. Buster will get his stash is due time. There's this thingy called service time and arbitration and free agency that impact these things.

  4. 1. Service time if buster was in his 4th year he would be getting more than pence.
    2. It's 3 games chill out.
    3. Pence is not a home run hitter

  5. Pence, 0-4 Monday and now 4for26 isn't going to cut it against the WS champs. As most people expected, this isn't the bad joke Rockies. This obscenely overpaid acquisition has yet to go yard. At least "Zona were shutout. Rockies up 2-0 top 2nd could've had much more but for the dreaded dp ball enabling L.A.to stay close enough for their patented comeback win. Should the Rockies win,it would be a welcome upset. Ian.

  6. Matt Cain isn't a home run hitter either but he has one more dinger as a Giant than "The DEAR Hunter" Ian.

  7. Dr.G and Logan, you both have a gift for stating the obvious. However, that doesn't alter the fact that the DEAR HUNTER has yet to be a difference maker.Still the biggest Bust since Morganna the Kissing Bandit.Ian.
