Boof Bonser(RHP)- 5 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 6.00.

Big game from Nady.  I'd like to see him do it a few more time before I believe.  Nice start for Bonser albeit not quite a QS.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels pounded the Binghamptom Mets 10-3:

Gary Brown(CF)- 0 for 3, BB, SF, Assist(home). BA= .282.
Daniel Mayora(3B)- 2 for 4, 2B, SB(9).  BA= .290.

Juan Perez his hitting .429 over his last 10 games and .424 in August after hitting .303 in July and .298 in June.  Lots of organizational players on this team.

High A  San Jose Giants whipped the Stockton Ports 7-2:

Adam Duvall(3B)- 1 for 4, HR(27).  BA= .260.
Alex Burg(RF)- 2 for 3, HR(10), HBP, SB(1).  BA= .268.

Heath Hembree(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 0.00.

Duvall sets a SJ season record for dingers.  He is a ferocious hitter.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets smothered the Charleston River Dogs 6-3:

Jesus Galindo(CF)- 1 for 2, 2 BB, Sac, SB(38).  BA= .252.
Brett Krill(RF)- 3 for 5.  BA= .282.

Kyle Vazquez(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(8).  ERA= 4.13.

Vazquez has 26 K's against 9 BB's in 24 IP.  Galindo is hitting .306 in 10 August games after hitting .306 in July too.  His OBP for both months is >.400.

Short Season  Eugene Emeralds topped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 5-4:

Brennan Metzger(LF)- 1 for 3, 2 2B.  BA= .247.
Joseph Rapp(1B)- 2 for 4.  BA= .277.
Ryan Jones(2B)- 2 for 4, HR(1).  BA= .232.
Gaspar Santiago(LHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 1.80.

Rookie AZL  Giants pounded the Brewers 11-4:

Randy Ortiz(RF)- 1 for 3, SF, SB(21).  BA= .243.
Tyler Hollick(CF)- 2 for 3, 2B, 2 BB, 3 SB(17).  BA= .295.
Jonathan Jones(1B)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .309.
Gabriel Cornier(C)- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .305.
Alberto Robles(2B)- 2 for 4, Sac.  BA= .364.
Zach Edgington(LHP)- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 1.93.
Brandon Allen(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 6.49.
Tyler Hess(RHP)- 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.18.
Jake Shadle(RHP)- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 2.84.

Hollick is looking like a 5 tool prospect.  Jonathan Jones appears to have the makings of a ferocious hitter.  Cornier is another switch-hitting catcher prospect.

DSL  Giants downed the Phillies 4-2:

Angel Villalona(DH)- 1 for 4, HR(7), BB.  BA= .308.
Hangerber Medina(2B)- 3 for 4, 2B.  BA= .312.
Carlos Diaz(LHP)- 7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 3.19.
Carlos Alvarado(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.06.

Diaz is 18 yo and looks like a legit prospect.  Alvarado is 22 yo and was picked up from the Tigers' organization.  He's got interesting size at 6'4" and has put up nice numbers.

  1. Ryan jones with his first professional dinger! Alright. Like that guy as the sleeper of 2012 draft, scrapper division.

Manny burriss with another extra base hit? Making it look easy down there in Fresno.

    Good for boof.

  2. My fear...

    2012 Duval = 2011 Cavan
    2012 Rapp = 2011 Thomas

    The similarities are too glaring.

    1. Except for those 27 home runs from Duval - don't think Cavan came anywhere close to those numbers...

  4. This is RBJ, I am changing my sign in to AGO. Here is part 1 of my Dave Williams interview.

Dave Williams is the father of the Giants-Grizzlies AAA catcher Jackson Williams. While the Grizzlies where in Oklahoma City playing the Redhawks Mr. Williams was gracious enough to grant my request for a short interview for my blog A Giant Obsession.

Dave is a roofing contractor from Broken Arrow, OK, where Jackson grew up and played High School baseball.

    Q. Dave when did Jackson start playing baseball? Jackson started playing baseball at age 9 after a few years of my consistent urging. Before that Jackson played a few sports, most soccer.

    Q. When did Jackson start catching? Jackson was a catcher from the first practice he attended. I urged him early on to think about SS or 2nd base but once he got behind the plate he liked it and didn't want to come out.

    Q. Who was Jackson's favorite team and players as a kid and who did he try to emulate as a player. Who were his biggest influences? Jackson was a Yankee fan growing up but his favorite player was definately Pudge Rodriguez. He tried to emulate everything Pudge did behind the plate. When Jackson was a young kid I played quite a bit of softball and he looked up to alot of the guys I played with. We all threw the ball around with him out in the field so I think those guys had a pretty big influence on him as he was starting to learn the game.

    Q. Has Jackson played any other positions? Jackson pitched a little growing up but I really didn't like the idea of him pitching and hurting his arm in little league. In high school he pitched a little but we tried to keep it to a minimum especially when we started to see he had a future behind the plate. At the University of Oklahoma, Jackson was recruited by coach Galloway to be a catcher, he was once was asked to throw a bull-pen by some assisant coaches which never happened again once coach Galloway (and dad) found out about it.

    Q. What other things stick out about Jackson as a kid, what did he like to do? He was pretty much a normal kid, one thing that he really loved to do was go to the fair and buy alot of tickets to the dunk tank and keep who ever was sitting in the tank in the water. It was pretty funny, he loved that.

    Q. Has the Giants Organization asked him to try any other positions, I mean they had Tommy Joseph play some first base? No, Jackson has been a catcher only since being drafted by the Giants. Alot of people in the organization see him as the best defensive catcher in the system.

    Q. Did you guys know Jackson was going to be drafted by the Giants before the 2007 draft? Well Jackson was finishing his Junior year at OU and was being projected to be a second or third rounder so we knew he was probably going to come out and sign with someone. We had heard that the Giants were going to be looking to draft a catcher so we had an idea. Kirt Manwaring (Kirt was a long time catcher in the Giants Org who won a gold glove in 1993) scouted the catcher position for the Giants that year and told us he thought Jackson was the best defensive catcher in the draft so that also gave us an idea that the Giants might pick him.

    Q. So was the draft pretty exciting? ( dad smiles as wide as you think he would ) Very much so, Jackson was projected to go in the second or third round, so to go in the supplemental first round (Jackson was picked 43 overall in 2007) was very exciting.

  5. The second part of my interview with Dave Williams, father of Jackson Williams, AAA catcher in the Giants Organization.

    Q. Who is Jackson close to on the team? Jackson's best friend on the team was probably his roommate Charlie Culberson who was recently traded. He hangs out with Noonan alot. He is also very close to Brandon Crawford. They both stood up for the other in each of their weddings.

    Q. How does Jackson like playing in the Giants Organization? Jackson really does like playing for the organization, they have treated him well.

    Q. What do these kids make playing AAA ball? You would be amazed, around $2500 a month. Me.......damn I thought it would be more. Dave.........they make their money in the signing bonus.......hopefully. They make about 50 K when they make the 40 man roster.

    Q. What has the organization told Jackson he needs to work on? Really it is just getting his stick ready for the big leagues. The organization has pushed Jackson to try to hit the ball to right-field, a right field approach is what they preach. I personally think that has stunted his progress with the bat and sapped the power out of his swing. Jackson has always had pretty good power to left field. There are smater baseball minds than mine teaching him about hitting at this level but I think it is a mistake for him to not pull the ball to left more often. With that said, he has been pulling the ball more this year and most of his 10 HR's have gone to left.

    Q. Has the organization told Jackson anything about the near future? Not really, you never know what the front office is really thinking.

    Q. The Giants have alot of young depth in the organization at the catcher position with Posey, Sanchez and Susec joining Jackson in the system. What do you think about that the depth and how it affects Jackson's future with the Giants? Alot of people in the organization and with other teams see Jackson as a very good defensive catcher, so it looks like he will find a spot as at least a back-up catcher on a big league roster somewhere.

    Q. This is Jackson's 5th year in the organization, have you heard anything about him getting on the 40 man roster so he is protected from the rule 5 draft? The organization is quiet about that, again, you never really know what they are thinking. Actually I have heard there are scouts from the Royals and White Sox here tonight that are looking at Jackson. I believe they like his defense and think he would be a good back-up catcher on their teams.

  6. Q. So what did you guys think about the Giants picking Buster Posey the year after they drafted Jackson? The Giants have really went after catching the last few years, Buster is a great player, you never know what is going to happen, the Giants could trade Hector Sanchez in the off-season to get pitching or a big bat and Jackson could end up in San Fran as the back-up, you never know.

    Q. Other organizations have been trying to get Hector? Hector's name comes up often in trades from what I have heard.

    Q. What did you think about Tommy Joseph being traded? I think Joseph was going to end up at 1B so I didn't think it would affect Jackson either way. Joseph can hit for some serious power but I don't think he was going to stick at catcher with the Giants.

    Q. What do you think about Steve Decker, his name comes up alot as the next Giants manager. Steve Decker is meticulous......Some guys find him hard to play for. He was tough but Jackson learned alot from him.

    Q. How is coach Mariano(the Grizzlies current manager)? The kids like playing for him, it's good.

    Q. How about Bruce Bochy? I don't know much about him personally.

    Q. How many games do you get to see a year? Not as many as we would like living in the Tulsa area. This is actually the first time this year we have seen Jackson play as the business has been busy. Usually we try to make it out to Fresno for a long home-stand and catch him when he comes close to Oklahoma. When he was at OU we went to almost every game both home and away, we traveled alot those few years.

    Q. Has Jackson played winter ball and does he plan on playing this year? He has not played winter ball but I think it would be good for him to play at least a few weeks of winter ball. His wife is pregnant and due in October so this year may not be the best to go to winter ball but we will see.
