Down on the Farm: 8/13/2012

AAA  New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the Fresno Grizzlies 2-1:

Jackson Williams- 2 for 4, 2B.  BA= .268.
Eric Hacker(RHP)- 6 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.95.
Dan Otero(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 2.83.

Hacker and Otero are both on the 40 man roster, so are likely September callups.

AA  Richmond Flying Squirrels were idle.

High A  The Cal League was idle.

Low A  Augusta Greenjackets beat the Lakewood Blue Claws 7-4:

Every batter in the 'Jackets' lineup had a hit with Flores and Devin Harris getting 2 each.  Krill and Staley had SB's.  Staley had the only XBH with a double.
Derek Law(RHP)- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.82.
Kyle Vazquez(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, Save(6).  ERA= 4.50.

Short Season  Salem-Keizer Volcanoes topped the Boise Hawks 11-4:

Mac Williamson(RF)- 3 for 5, HR(4).  BA= .343.
Rafael Rodriguez(DH)- 2 for 4, 2 2B.  BA= .278.
Chuckie Jones(CF)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .241.
Ian Gardeck(RHP)- 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 4.01.

Williamson is raking.  I'm still cautiously optimistic about RafRod and The Chuckster.  Both have been around awhile but both started out very young and very raw.  This might be Gardeck's best line as a pro so far.

Rookie AZL  Giants were idle.

DSL  Nationals edged the Giants 4-3:

Rando Moreno(SS)- 3 for 5, 2B.  BA= .254.

  1. I've been happy about Mac's hitting too, as I wasn't that impressed with his numbers in college. I'm also still cautiously optimistic about RafRod as well.

Did Noonan go into a funk again?

    1. Well his contact rate was not stellar, but he can take a walk, and he had more dingerz than Richie Shaffer in the ACC. I like Mac!

Chuckie Jones and RafRod may spend a lot of time in the next 3 years together, they are barely a month apart in age.

  2. In addition to his nice batting average and home run numbers, Williamson has just seven strikeouts in seventy at-bats.

  3. The Gs will certainly add Otero, Hacker, and Edelfsen to bolster the pen. Whiteside do that they can utilize Sanchez more. Pill and Christian for bench depth. Doc, think they will add any one else?

    2. Most likely Gillaspie since he's already on the 40 man. Peguero is on the 40 man but I doubt they add him.

I think anyone not currently on the 40 man roster is a longshot, but the most likely candidates are Brown, Bochy and Hembree.

    3. I agree Brown is the most likely, since the Giants actually talked about maybe bringing him up. But given our need for bullpen help, I go back and forth between Brown and Bochy.

When I looked at the 40-man the other day, I was thinking that the Giants might have an "all hands on deck" attitude and bring up almost everyone, except for Hector Correa and mayber Roger Kieschnick, and only because he's been out with his injury. Most of them have had major league experience already too.

Also, Freddy is still only on the 15-day DL, if they finally cut bait on him and move him to the 60-day, that would free up a spot for Brown, Bochy or Hembree. Oh, but if they plan on bringing Mota back, that spot probably goes to him.

Maybe move Penny to the 60-Day? He had shoulder problems when we got him, and shoulder problems now, though the press report on it was mysterious in that they actually stated that it was not known if it was the same or different shoulder problems. We can't do anything about Mota until late in the month anyway, so maybe at that time, the two of them swap out.

Heck, if Kieschnick is down, shouldn't they be able to 60-day DL him, or would that add service time to him? Still, might be worth giving him that service time if it allows us to pull up Brown, Bochy, or Hembree for the stretch run.
