Game Wrap 8/25/2012: Braves 7 Giants 3

Madison Bumgarner was just a bit off today.  That caused him to start the 3'rd inning by walking the opposing pitcher followed by another walk followed by a 3 run dinger to Jason Heyward.  It was pretty much all over but the shouting after that.  Key Lines:

Angel Pagan- 0 for 4.  BA= .292.  If Angel's not hitting, ain't nobody hitting!

Brandon Belt- 1 for 3, 2B.  BA= .265.  Belt continues to slowly raise his BA and to show why he deserves to be in there against all pitchers.

Francisco Peguero- 0 for 2.  BA= .000.  Pegs showed on his first AB that he is certainly not afraid to swing the bat.

Gregor Blanco- 1 for 1, 2B.  BA= .241.  Blanco has done a reasonable impression of Melky Cabrera since the suspsension.  Where the Giants really miss Melky is when a lefty is pitching. Melky destroyed lefties.

Madison Bumgarner- 6.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 2.93.  As I said earlier, just a tad off today. He threw a lot of pitches in his last start.  Maybe there was a residual fatigue?

The Dodgers are leading the Marlins early in LA after AGone got his Dodger tenure off to a rousing start with a 3 run dinger.  Should they go on to win, the Giants lead would be cut to 2 games in the NL West.  The D'Backs are losing again to the Pesky Padres.

Either Big Time Timmy Jim or Little Timmy Lincecum will take the mound tomorrow evening to face Tim Hudson who is always tough on the Giants.  Evening games are double trouble for hitters.

  1. re belt...would be nice if more of those hits came with runners on

pegs made a hell of a defensive play in left

i still for the life of me cannot figure out how mccrappy made it to the hof before bill king

i listened to king for years, and i cannot remember a single instance where he seriously misspoke....and yet, within a 3 minute period, mccrappy called a bart train a bus and went rambling on about uggla and his hitting streak from a season ago, as if it should mean anything this season...im sure he said a ton of other things that were just as idiotic, but i mostly tuned him out

re agone....he will show that his onfield issues related mostly to the fact that valentine is a soicopath and made everyone miserable...but the bums will not beat out the giants...FACT

    1. I don't really know anything about Bobby Valentine except from listening to him as a commentator on broadcasts, but OMG! If I had to go to work every day and listen to that, man, I'd want to run screaming out the door every single day. What an annoying person!

I've always defended McCarver, but he seemed disinterested or out of it or something today. Are they sure he's not getting early Alzheimer's or something? The lead announcer, Albert, had to carry him the entire game. I have to confess I missed the middle innings though. After Heyward's dinger, I kind of lost interest and went and took a nap. Woke up just in time to see Affeldt walk in 2 runs. Arrgh!!!

    2. Oh, and Belt did have a run and RBI in this one, so he made his hit count today.

  2. We issued 4 walks that killed. You don't have to mention it to Maddy, I am sure he is pissed as hell about it. Affeldt is going through a bad Affeldt period. Time to get him some knee braces. I do not trust Hensley whatsoever. Bochy is good about resting his guys though, and Romo/Lopez have been worked hard lately.

It hurt yesterday, but its nice to see Jason Heyward bouncing back and being the player everybody expected. Fun guy to watch. After always hating the Bravos, I have to say I like most of their team now - redass Hudson, McCann, Heyward, that great pen. The Braves have a lot of simularities to the Gints actually.

One more on national TV, hope that espn crew is not too annoying. We really really need Big Time Timmy Jim to show up. And then the Giants need to go on a rampage against significantly weaker competition. 2011 we didn't show up against the Astros. These are some important games coming up.

  3. My daughter and I went to the game and I was excited to see Peguero. He is very aggressive but not reckless at the plate and he made an impressive catch near the warning track with 2 runners on. Other than the Heyward homer MadBum did okay. Heyward has been hot of late. Pence just swings at everything and that is not a compliment. His first K was in the dirt. Ugly. I saw another one of those the night before in the hotel room. Someone tell him to calm down. He is pressing and swinging at crap. Pagan is building a little fanbase and I think he will be resigned. Hope he keeps hitting. Belt went 1 for 3 but one out was scorches to left field and out in most parks. Good ABs.

    2. BTW, I agree, I thought Pegs took some healthy looking hacks up there. I just think Nady has a better chance of being a difference maker down the stretch fully recognizing that Nady probably would not have made that catch in LF.
