Blogger's Note

I have an out of town meeting that will be quite intensive so I won't be posting for the next couple of days.  I'll be back on Friday 8/10.  Thanks for reading and commenting, everybody!

  1. Let's hope G's don't need any of the 14 unnecessary runs tomorrow. No rain out please. Not while G's hot. If that's not the SFG's largest margin of victory,I don't know what is. Vogelsong for Cy Young. Dodgers look to be winning but "Zone lost ground.Ian.10:03.

  2. Great night for a couple of Giants pitching prospects: Mike Kickam pitched a 7 inning no hitter and Kyle Crick had 10K's in 6 innings pitched. Joe Panik improved his BA to .291 with a 4 hit night.. Anybody know why Gary Brown hasn't played the past 2 games for Richmond?

  3. And Adam Duvall tied the San Jose Giants' single-season record of 26 homers. Oh what the heck, there are concerns about his batting average and defense (yeah right). But I digress, what did Ricky Oropesa do? Defense and batting average are certainly issues for both prospects and everyday drb omits being critical of oropesa brings less credibility to the blog.

Don't get the defense of the Beltran for Wheeler deal, It was a dumb deal and it gave the fans their money's worth last year, but did not help the long term health of the Giants. I like Sabean overall as a GM. He's got a lot to deal with. That's all I got to say.

    1. Come on. We all know DrB works with Ricky's mom. Give him a break.

    2. Yeah, give Dr. B a break..Everybody is allowed a favorite, not even considering he knows the family...Still, a great blog...............And it wasn't a dumb deal for Beltran, it was a move done for the "present" ..getting the best bat on the market in an attempt to defend the championship. Just didn't work out..But, no disagreeing, it did hurt the pitching depth of the organization......ALthough I love what KICKHAM and the Augusta kiddies are doing

    3. I have made a couple of comments about Ricky slumping.

Yes, I have concerns about Duvall's D and BA. Let's see how those 26 HR's translate to AA next year.

    4. I have also been upfront with everybody who reads this blog that I am NOT unbiased when it comes to Ricky Oropesa.

    5. Also, I have never claimed anywhere I've posted that I am unbiased about anything. I am an unabashed Giants fan! I'm biased! If you don't like that, there are plenty of other sites you can visit.

    6. PD can go post on another blog. That's all I got to say.

    7. DrB don't need to apologize or explain himself to nobody. If you don't like what's here, there are plenty of other Giants blogs to go to.

The Beltran deal was not a dumb deal. It traded something in the future for something in the present. Who knew that Beltran would injure himself and prove useless for a large stretch of his time with us? If he hit like he did after he got healthy, for the whole time we had him, the Giants might have made the playoffs. Teams make deals like this all the time.

And you denigrate the fact that Duvall can't hit for average in Advanced A ball. The Cal league is a hitter's league, inflating numbers, plus the fact that its A-ball, means that hitters who can't hit for average in this league is going to have a hard time hitting above .200 in the majors. Particularly when he is on the older side for the league, which denigrates his performance further. Unless every other hit he hits is a homer, that BA is not going to fly in the majors.

As for his defense, BA did not think much of it: "He had a miserable time while making 27 errors at third base last year, mostly on rushed, high throws. He has average range and arm strength, with fringy speed."

So yeah, his low BA and defense is of huge concerns.

And regarding Oropesa, DrB is friends with his mom. If you can't understand that, well, that explains your comment, why you feel so free to write what you wrote.

    9. DrB: Thanks for explaining yourself multiple times. Didn't mean to raise your blood pressure.

Kay, it's a free world with free opinions. Would you prefer the dystopian world of group think ala 1984? Feel secure in your own opinions.

OGC: Usually, you stay fact based. Obviously, I hit a nerve. You're better when you back up your opinions with stats. The Beltran deal was dumb for the long term health of the ballclub. I understand why Sabean did it for the fans. Too bad most do not understand why he did it.

I do not denigrate Duvall. That would be DrB, not me. Another example of hitting the nerve. Don't mean to skew you guys. Just want to get the facts straight. I am very familiar with the various levels of minor league ball. I attend many major and minor leagues games. I have played the game and I think I know a player when I see one.

OBTW ricky is 22 years old and Duvall is 23.....check their numbers too. Then come back and explain your 3rd paragraph.

Regarding DrB's connection with oropesa, I'm more than well aware of his connection. And I tout DrB to the many boards I comment on. Many here probably got here through me. Your welcome.

I realize I touched a nerve. I'm not here to create a MCC or sfgiants.com crazy fest. I appreciate the work DrB puts into this blog.

So let me be clear. Duvall is a prospect. Show him some respect.

  4. how do you guys think is a better prospect Crick or Blackburn?

how do Panik and Susac look on defense? do you think Panik can stick at SS, or will be be moving to 2B?

    1. It's hard to say.

      That applies in general.

Vogelsong, as good as he has been, did not make the team out of spring training. It took Zito's Injury in 2011. Management was not so sure and didn't hand him a spot.

Hector had to beat our Whiteaiside and Stewart in the last week of SP this
year. Maybe things are not easy to tell nor obvious.

If Beltran for 2 months of regular season was worth a Wheeler, and how much was Pence for 8 months of regular season? At least 3 Wheelers? They were asking for 2 Wheelers only.

    2. Crick is a better pitching prospect than Blackburn.

  5. Hey team! I'm back from my out of town meeting trip. I'll pick things up with tomorrow night's game.

I'll just say it was an unexpectedly successful road trip and who'd have thunk that the Rockies would come to Dodger Stadium and kick butt 2 of 3 games? Goes to show there's a reason why they play the games.

I watched last night's game on my hotel room TV. Wish they'd have saved some of that offensive outburst for today's game, but there's not shame in getting shut down by Wainwright, even if he's having an off year.

Giants come home in great shape to face the Rockies and watch out for them after the sweep in Colorado! Giants have to do better at home than they did last homestand.

    1. Hey Doc welcome back. Do you think Brown will get a look in September.

      Delete
    2. They would have to add Brownie to the 40 man roster. I think Bochy said they will consider it, but won't bring him up unless they think he can contribute. Won't be a show and tell like it as with Buster when he got the Sept. callup.
