  1. Thoughts on Pegs getting the call up?
    Not Nady?

    1. I doubt we're going to see very much of Pegs, but we'll see.

  2. There must have been a dense fog when the Volcanos were batting in Spokane or else someone spiked the Gatorade. 13 K's in 15 AB's by Volcano batters # 3 thru 6. The hitting coach must have been put on suicide watch.

    1. I guess it's just a clean out of "loose bodies" but still, not what you want to hear about your first round draft pick this soon. Oh yeah, you don't want to hear about them getting a concussion during batting practice either!

  4. Potential blockbuster trade: LA get Beckett, Crawford, PLUS A-Gon and gives up a packet of prospects to Boston: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/08/red-sox-dodgers-discussing-blockbuster.html

6:45pm: The Dodgers have agreed to send Webster, De La Rosa, Loney, Sands, and De Jesus to the Red Sox, a source tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (via Twitter). Meanwhile, a source tells Rob Bradford of WEEI (Twitter link) not to expect a deal to be completed tonight.

6:42pm: The Red Sox have yet to secure permission from Beckett, who has 10-and-5 rights, or Crawford, who has a partial no-trade clause, a source tells Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com. However, neither player is expected to block the deal.

6:38pm: Pitcher Allen Webster will go to the Red Sox in the trade, a source tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (via Twitter).

6:15pm: The Red Sox and Dodgers are currently reviewing medical records, according to Alex Speier of WEEI.com (via Twitter). The deal would include Rubby De La Rosa, James Loney, Jerry Sands, Ivan De Jesus, and a top prospect, according to Gordon Edes of ESPNBoston.com (Twitter link).

6:04pm: Adrian Gonzalez was scratched from the lineup and summoned from the dugout into the clubhouse along with Nick Punto, according to Alex Speier of WEEI.com (via Twitter).

5:52pm: There are two deals on the table, one mega deal involving Carl Crawford and another with just Beckett and Gonzalez, tweets Peter Abraham of The Boston Globe.

ogc: Loney reportedly was pulled out of the lineup too. According to that one up top, the deal looks pretty much done, just figuring out the deal's due diligence regarding the veteran players (medical reviews, etc.).

Wow! Crawford would be an upgrade over Victorino in LF. Also, with 3 OF, the Dodgers look like they will either have to bench Victorino, which couldn't make him happy, or DFA him. Beckett looks like he still injured and not doing well, so if he is put in the rotation, that's good for us Giants fans. But if they can DL him, they buy time to deal with him over the off-season and next season. And while A-Gon has been gone in Boston, he's still a big improvement over Loney. This would be horrendous for the payroll today and for years to come, but apparently that money is burning a hole in their owner's pockets.

I'm not scared by the deal, but right now it looks to improve them, plus they pick up Nick Punto, which could mean that Uribe might get DFA soon to clear space for the new utility bench player.

  5. I thought Crawford just had surgery? I'm not worried at all. Gonzo was about a .280 hitter at SD other than his contract year. He comes back to the National league with generally tougher pitchers. He's an upgrade, but I'm not sure he seals the division. Plus Dodgers give up a good reliever for a team that needs them. Beckett will be their Zito (if they're lucky). Don't know much about Webster or De Jesus, but Sands wasn't all that great. With Hanley, and their SS whom they love, De Jesus probably had no spot anyway. I don't see this is all that smart; risks chemistry and they set themselves up as the Yankees of the West Coast. It usually doesn't work, and you have the "cancer" effect (witness Kevin Brown).

While Dodgers have lots of money, people forget that the Parking Lot King spent a lot of money initially and made bad personnel decisions. I think Hanley was fine, albeit expensive. But they never got the pitching help they needed (and Beckett will make it better not worse).

    Just MHO.
