The Giants offensive renaissance continued a second day after their indomitable manager, Bruce Bochy, delivered his tongue lashing in a closed-door meeting and the Giants oudistanced a late rally by the Reeling Rockies. Key Lines:
Angel Pagan- 4 for 6, HR(6), SB(18). BA= .284. Pagan was a focal point of the closed door meeting and he's responded with 8 hits in the next 2 games.
Ryan Theriot- 2 for 5, 2B, BB. BA= .269. Riot had been in a slump before the meeting too.
Melky Cabrera- 1 for 2, HR(11), 4 BB. BA= .352. 4 walks from Melky? What is the world coming too?! That's over 10% of the walks he's drawn all year in one game!
Buster Posey- 2 for 6, HR(16). BA= .325. Buster likes to take a strike before swinging, but he's pull the trigger on a first pitch often enough to keep 'em honest.
Hunter Pence- 1 for 5, 2B. BA= .265. Pence is pulling off the ball has hard as any batter I can remember seeing. I mean everything just flies open as he starts his swing. Gotta fix that or his struggles will continue.
Marco Scutaro- 3 for 4, BB. BA= .277. Will Bochy be able to resist the temptation to get Scoots in the lineup at SS after Pablo comes back?
Brandon Belt- 1 for 2, 2B. BA= .240. Belt shows some fortitude after sitting the better part of 2 games.
Madison Bumgarner- 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 3.03. Bumgarner was dominant in a tough, tough place to pitch.
The Dodgers topped the Cubbies behind Clayton Kershaw 3-1 to stay 0.5 games behind the NL West leading Giants. The D'Backs lost to the Phillies 3-0 to slide to 3 games back.
Tim Lincecum goes against TBD tomorrow as Christian Friedrich was scratched from the Rockies' start.

Tlyer Chatwood to pitch tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteBuster is one heck of a hitter with the count of 2 strikes on him and 2 outs. I am starting to wonder if he was underrated in the beginning. I do know that he is a perfect public relations bonanza...
ReplyDeleteLet's hope the G's break the pattern of blowing the last game of the series.Still far from sold on Freak. Lose to Rockies this afternoon and slip to 2nd.Do we really think we'll get any help from AA talent Cubs. Ian, Vancouver
ReplyDeleteLove the Giant hitting. To keep this in perspective though:
ReplyDeleteDirty's start against the Giants was his best in his last 7 starts. (Believe it or not)
The Rockies have had 12 pitchers start a game for them this year. Tyler Chatwood will be number 13, making his first start tomorrow. (Giants have had 6 starters. Bonus points for remember who starter number 6 was.)
The LOWEST ERA among these 13 Rockie starters is Drew Pameranz at 5.13.
Jamie Moyer and his 5.70 ERA is actually the 3rd best of the list.
3 of the 13 starters currently have an ERA of 9.00 or above.
The Rockies are bad. Really bad. They have no solid starters.
That would be Eric Hacker.
DeleteBuster Posey! The angst over 1B or the subpar MI options and all the drama surrounding the Brandons pales to the big time story that Posey has come back from a career threatening injury and not only thrived every day but flat out dominates. If Pablo will stop breaking things and apply himself, this offense will be just fine.
ReplyDeleteIt is an absolute privilege to watch Posey. Hottest player in baseball, and our main guy. So under cover it takes 3 HR games in a row to get his picture in the paper.
Hope Timmy brings some shutdown and the Gints can get that hugely elusive sweep.
Buster has to be at least in the conversation re. Best Player in Baseball right now.
DeleteAgree it is a pleasure to watch him play.
How much MVP love will Posey and Melky get this season? With Votto removing himself from the picture, and Kemps repeated DL stints, I think there is a chance they both represent well. Although, they will cancel each other out, so neither will win.
ReplyDeleteLet's see if Giants can do well v/s a major league team that has major league pitching.Rockies are by far the worst excuse for a big league squad in recent memory.Pence finally gets 2 legitimate rbi's today and Timmy kept his team in the game.Cubs ARE better than Rockies but that's damning by faint praise. Ian.
