Rapp seems like a ferocious hitter. Gregorio pitched 5 shutout innings before allowing 3 baserunners without recording an out in the 6'th.

Tyler Hollick(LF)- 1 for 4, BB. BA= .282.

Houck was drafted as an OF out Kutztown St. He's played mostly 3B for the Volcanoes. He's hitting .459/.556/.892 over his last 10 games. Jones has shown nice power this summer. Maybe Mota needs to go back on the 'roids?

Franklin Matamoros(1B)- 2 for 3, 3B, BB. BA= .220.

Gary needs to working his SB%.
ReplyDeleteGo Gary Brown! Maybe he can help us in September (well, not if he's CSing...)
ReplyDeleteSign the D-backs are desperate: they just signed Brett Tomko (we should know....)
Ferocious hitters.
ReplyDeleteThe older one gets, the more ferocious one becomes.
I'm not sure how I would define a "ferocious" hitter, but I have come examples in mind: Mike Napoli, Josh Willingham are two who come immediately to mind. Back in the day, I would call Jim Ray Hart a ferocious hitter.
DeleteIt's guys who really only do one thing really well, hit and hit with power. They'll probably never make the HOF but they can produce a lot of runs for their teams.
Here are my game notes from last night, sorry for the mess.

Bond playing 3rd nice dive to his right followed by strong throw to 1B, Pill does his part coming off the bag to receive the throw and dive back to 1B tagging it with his glove. Pill GO, linden FO, lollis BB, Ciriaco single to LF, Eli weak grounder to SS and everyone is safe. Nady Ph for pitcher with the bases loaded, pitcher change, Nady weak groundout to 2nd to kill the rally. Grizzlies 2-0 in bottom of 6.
Mitch Lively in to pitch. 3.5 era 6'5 91 mph FB, 80 change. Burris w a nice play at 2nd. Top 7. Burris FO, Bond GO to 2nd, Pegs easy FO to RF. So far I would say the only position players worthy of a spot on the 40 man are Peguero, Pill, Burris, Bond and Jackson Williams.
DeleteI was impressed with Brock Bond. He hit the ball pretty hard each at bat and twice absolutely ripped a ball up the middle that ate up the pitcher. I thought he looked a bit on the small size the other day but up close he is ripped with big forearms, probably 5'10 200. They were playing Burris at 2nd and so Bond played 3rd and looked good doing it with a strong arm. Much stronger than Noonan's arm. I think Bond can play 2nd base at the next level with fair contact skills.
You can see why the Giants org likes Burris as his defense is the best on the infield every game.
Peguero has made a nice running catch in each of the last 3 games. He looks ready with the "D", now he just needs to tear it up with the bat. He makes steady contact and has a nice RF approach. The Redhawk outfield alignment even had a shift on when he was at bat that looked like a lefty was in the box. Maybe he needs to start pulling the ball to increase his power. More on this in the Dave Williams interview I am preparing.
