A lot of these picks are from JC or HS ball with basically no information available. I'll comment on what we know:
(948). Kyle Hardy, 1B, R/R, JC: 6'3", 220 lbs. BA= .398. OBP= .450. 8 HR's.
(978). Kevin Couture, RHP, USC: Sr. Stocky RHP with a FB 88-89 MPH. Lackluster numbers in 2010: 2-4, 5.99, 70.2 IP, 24 BB, 53 K's. USC pitchers Ian Kennedy and Tommy Milone have performed better in the pros than in college, but they were both more effective in college than Couture.
(1008). James Birmingham, LHP, Coastal Carolina: Sr. 6'5", 180 lbs. 6-2, 4.82, 52.1 IP, 29 BB, 33 K's. Those are scary looking K and BB #'s, but again, 6'5" LHP's don't grow on trees. Barr as much as said that some of these guys were drafted on size alone.
(1038). Johnathan DeBerry, CF, R/R, Bethel College(NAIA): 5'9", 210 lbs, Sr., BA= .421. SLG%= .684. 7 HR, 11 2B, 4 3B. No SB stats but I'm guessing he's fast and has quite a few.
(1068). Stephen Shackleford, RHP, Savannah College of Art and Design: Jr. 6'1", 185 lbs. 12-3, 2.50, 100.2 IP, 24 BB, 108 K's. Named second team National NAIA All American Team.
(1098). John Leonard, RHP, Boston College: Jr. 6', 205 lbs. 2-2, 7.53, 34.2 IP, 16 BB, 27 K's. Missed the early part of the season with shoulder weakness, no structural damage. worked at 87-90 MPH with max 91. Could return to school to try to raise his stock.
(1128). Eric Sisco, RHP, HS: 6'3", 200 lbs. That's all I could find.
(1158). Jacob McCasland, RHP, HS: 6'2", 215 lbs. Couldn't find anything else.
(1188). Tommy Tremblay, C, L/R, Edouard Montpetit College: 6'3", 190 lbs. Canadian College
(1218). Wes Hobson, 2B, L/R, Appalachian St. U: 6', 187 lbs. .404/.474/.655 with 11 HR, 17 SB. Top hitter in school history. Third team D1 All-American!
(1248). Jeffrey Honeycutt, LF, L/R, New Mexico: Jr., 6', 195 lbs. .353/.418/.502, 6 HR's. Was used primarily as a DH the last two seasons. I'm thinking he returns to school.
(1278). James Roberts, RHP, HS: 6'2", 180 lbs.
(1308). Raymond Ruggles, RHP, Tusculum College: Sr., 6'2", 200 lbs., 3-3, 4.76, 34 IP, 11 BB, 30 K's. The Giants get these right often enough that you just tip your cap and watch what happens.
(1338). Jacob Shadle, RHP, JC: 6'2", 180 lbs. No stats page. Went 7-1 with 1.83 ERA his freshman season.
(1368). Gregory Greve, RHP, HS: 6'3", 200 lbs.
(1398). Caleb Hougesen, 3B, R/R, HS: 6'1", 215 lbs.
(1428). Ray Hanson, RHP, Cypress College, CA: 6'7", 235 lbs. Not great stats. I'm sure the GIants were looking at size here.
(1458). Devin Harris, RF, R/R, East Carolina: 6'3", 225 lbs, This is an interesting one. Stock fell a lot this year. Drafted in round 8 last year as a draft eligible soph. .314/.392/.589 with 13 HR's, 18 double, 7 SB's Still showed raw power. Likely to return to school. the Giants will evaluate him in summer league and if they like what they see, try to get him signed.
(1488). Dan Pellegrino, C, R/R, UC Riverside: Jr. 5'11", 190 lbs. .283/.339/415. Only 53 AB's. Must have played behind Rob Brantly. I would think he would almost surely return to school.
(1518). Golden Tate, CF, L/L, Notre Dame: Second round NFL draft pick. Did not play baseball this year. The Giants are enamored by his athleticism. You never know.....
That's it, folks. Stick a fork in the 2010 MLB Free Agent Draft. We'll watch the short season rosters to see who signed and follow their progress.
