Barry Zito pitched a pretty good game against 8 of the 9 hitters in the Jays' lineup. Unfortunately, he couldn't get Juan Encarnacion out. The Jays' third baseman drove in all 3 runs with a single and a HR which was enough to beat Pablo Sandoval's bases loaded walk and RBI ground out. Key lines:
Pablo Sandoval- 0 for 3, BB. BA= .279. Pablo drove in both the Giants runs, but not in typical Panda fashion. He drew a bases-loaded walk in the first inning and had an RBI ground out in the 6'th.
Buster Posey- 0 for 4. We knew Buster wasn't going to hit .450 forever, but since the beginning of the Oakland series, he's just 2 for 23. He left 4 runners stranded tonight including 3 in the first inning when Brandon Morrow couldn't seem to find the strike zone and it looked like the GIants had a chance to knock him out early. Still, Buster needs a chance to play through this. His overall line still looks good despite the mini-slump.
Barry Zito- 8 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 5 K's. He couldn't get Encarnacion out, for some reason, or just bad luck.
The loss left the Giants at 37-29, 1.5 games off the pace set by the Padres who moved back into sole possession of first place with a 3-2 win over the hapless Orioles, coupled with the Dodger's 10-6 loss to the BoSox The Rockies stayed in 4'th place, 4.5 games behind the leaders with a 2-0 win over the BrewCrew behind the pitching of Jason Hammel. The Rockies got bad news when they learned that SS Troy Tulowitzki has a broken left wrist and was put on the DL, probably for 6 weeks. Meanwhile, last place Arizona lost to Detroit 7-5 and is now 13.5 games behind the Pads.
The Giants send their ace, Matt Cain, to the mound vs Toronto's Jesse Litsch to try to regain their momentum today.
