Down on the Farm: 06-04-2010

AAA Fresno Grizzlies trounced the Reno 51's 7-1:

Brock Bond- 2 for 4, 3B, BB. BA= .299.
Mark DeRosa- 1 for 3, BB. BA= .571.
Eugenio Velez- 2 for 5, 2 2B(12). BA= .314.
Joe Martinez- 9 IP, 9 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K's, GO/AO= 15/4.

Bond is an OBP machine. What in the world are the Giants going to do with Mark DeRosa when he comes back? A masterful game by Joey Martinez. Hope he gets another chance with some team some time.

RIchmond Flying Squirrels edged the Trenton Thunder 2-1:

Brandon Crawford- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .254.
Thomas Neal- 2 for 4, BA= .255.
Darren Ford- 1 for 2, BB, 2 SB(16). BA= .233.
Clayton Tanner- 7.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 2 K's, GO/AO= 17/4.

This was Crawford's 3'rd straight game with 2 hits. Nice effort by Tanner after 3 subpar games.

High A San Jose Giants pounded the Bakersfield Blaze 14-9:

Brandon Belt- 2 for 4, HR(5). BA= .379.
Jose Flores- 4 for 5, 3B. BA= .407.
Drew Biery- 4 for 5, 2 HR(5). BA= .265.
Eric Surkamp- 4 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 2 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.51.
Kyle Woodruff- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.51.
Jason Stoffel- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 4.91.

Great games by Belt and Biery "Bonds". Stoffel's ERA is slowly coming down.

Low A Rome Braves topped the Augusta Greenjackets 5-3:

Luke Anders- 2 for 4, HR(8). BA= .279.

Not much to comment on here.

DSL Giants topped the Phillies 3-1:

Keurin Feliz- 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 1.50.
Ebert Fernandez- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.

The Giants only managed 2 hits. The scoring was mostly due to errors by the Phillies. Feliz and Fernandez are both on the wrong side of 19 and are starting their 3'rd seasons wlth the DSL team. They may not be serious prospects.

  1. What is the story with Flores? He was nowhere near my radar coming into this season, and he does only have a small sample size this year, but is he for real? He is hitting DH, so that worries me. Does he have a potential position?

  2. Flores has been kicking around as a middle infielder in the lower levels for several years. It's hard to imagine that he's more than an organizational player at this point, but hey, maybe he's a late bloomer?
