Game Wrap 06-15-2010: Orioles's 4 Giants 1

This one will be short. There are some games your team is just not destined to win. It would not have mattered if Todd Wellemeyer was pitching tonight, or Jonathan Sanchez or Tim Lincecum, or any other Giants pitcher. It is just highly unlikely that they would have won under any circumstances. Rookie Jake Arrieta shut the Giants down on just 3 hits, one being Panda's HR and the O's won 4-1. Key lines:

Pablo Sandoval- 1 for 4, HR(6). That's if for the offense. It!!

Joe Martinez- 6/1 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 2 K's, GO/AO= 12/4. Martinez pitched about as well as you would expect a #5 starter to pitch. He never gave up a bunch of runs. The Orioles kind of pecked at him until they had 4 runs. With #5 starters, you hope your team will back them up with some runs often enough to steal a W about 1/3-1/2 of the games they pitch. It wasn't happening tonight!

With the L, the Giants lost the ground they made up on the Padres and Dodgers in yesterday's games. They are now 1.5 games behind the Padres and 1 game behind the Dodgers. Colorado and Arizona both lost to remain in 4'th and 5'th place respectively.

Timmy goes up against Baltimore's version of a ace tomorrow afternoon in a game the Giants should win. The offense will have to perform better than they did tonight, though.

  1. yeah i knew from the beginning when we smashed two balls in the first and they were caught it was not going to be our night! Some nights in the MLB are just like that. Let's just get tomorrow's win and we can't be ashamed by a 5-1 homestand. GO GIANTS...keep it up!
