The Giants overcame a bunch of missed offensive opportunities and a blown save by Brian Wilson to outlast the Pirates and win the 3 game series. Key lines:
Andres Torres- 2 for 5, 2B, BB, 2 SB(11). The Giants seem to have found the solution at leadoff. He plays good defense in the OF too.
Freddy Sanchez- 2 for 4, BB, SF. Freddy had one of 4 Giants Sac Flies which was the difference in the game right there.
Pablo Sandoval- 2 for 5, 2B, SF. Pablo seems to be getting his mojo back.
Juan Uribe- 2 for 5, 2 2B, SF. What a steady performer Uribe has been!
Aubrey Huff- 1 for 3, 2 BB, 2 SB(3). Huff can do it all! Kruk was saying that when Boch text messaged him about starting in LF, Huff responded by saying "I'm going to show you that I'm the best athlete on the team." Wow! What a breath of fresh air!
Tim Lincecum- 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 6 K's. An encouraging start for Lincecum. Still struggled with his command, but the fastball was sitting 92-94 MPH and he maintained velocity deep into the game.
Brian Wilson- 1.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K, BS(2). W(2-0). Wilson retired the first two batters on pop ups and looked like he would cruise to an easy Save. Alas, the next batter reached and he gave up a game tying dinger to pinch hitter Delwyn Young on a hanging slider. Just go with the heat, Brian. They can't hit that!
With the win, the Giants kept pace in the NL West as the Padres, Dodgers and Rockies all won.
Now they go face a much improved Cincinnati team in Cincy with Zito, Cain and Sanchez getting the call. Love that pitching lineup, but it's going to be a test.
