Down on the Farm: 06-01-2010

AAA Las Vegas 51's outslugged the Fresno Grizzlies 15-10:

Brock Bond- 3 for 5, 2 2B, BB. BA= .293 OBP= .417.
Brett Pill- 2 for 5, HR(6). BA= .283.
Jesus Guzman- 3 for 5. BA= .280.
Kevin Pucetas- 1.2 IP, 7 H, 8 R, 2 BB, 1 K. ERA= 5.59.
Alex Hinshaw- 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 4.58.
Henry Sosa- 2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 3 HR. ERA= 3.03.

Las Vegas is basically a wind tunnel and a big part of why PCL stats are so unreliable. HInshaw's outing was impressive.

AA Harrisburg Senators downed the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-1:

Really nothing to see here. Tommy Milone, drafted by the Nats in 2008 out of USC is moving smartly up the ladder. His line was typical of his pro career so far: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K's. So far, he's been a better pro pitcher than you would guess from his college career.

San Jose Giants outhit the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 10-7:

Ehire Adrianza- 2 for 5, SB(13). BA= .258.
Jose Flores- 2 for 4, 2B, BB. BA= .368.
Charlie Culberson- 2 for 3, BB, 2 SB(8). BA= .293.
James Simmons- 1 for 4, HR(2). BA= .230.
Edwin Quirarte- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, Save(4). ERA= 0.76.

Culberson is having a nice season with his BA creeping toward .300.

Augusta Greenjackets edged the Rome Braves 7-6:

Nick Liles- 3 for 5, 2B. BA= .292.
Chris Dominguez- 2 for 5, HR(9). BA= .271.
Ydwin Villegas- 2 for 4. BA= .429.
Jose Casilla- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 1.46.
Jose Valdez- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.61.

Dominguez is still striking out a lot, but has been more consistent than I thought he might be. I'd kind of like to see what he can do in San Jose before the season is out.

  1. Isn't Rancho Cucamonga a hitter-friendly park as well? Perhaps we should view those numbers nearly as skeptically as the Las Vegas stats.

  2. I agree with you on Dominguez - the dying embers of hope haven't yet been extinguished. I can live with minimal contact ability if the power turns out to be real. He's kind of looking like Pedro Feliz 2.0, less the defense and with more power.

Speaking of dying embers of hope, who rekindled the flame on Charlie? When did that happen?

Ydwin Villegas is one of my sleepers for 2010 - glad to see him in full season ball.

  3. Great stuff as always.....

Good to Adrianza playing real well after a horrible, horrble start...Maybe showing why some people were so high on him..

Ditto with Quirarte, who struggled a bunch last year but now seems to be pitching like the guy that many praised as a great pick when he was drafted..

Is Tommy Joseph injured or was he sent down to Extended Spring Training to regroup?

  4. I think Tommy got plunked in the head - should be back soon though if I recall.

  5. RC may be a bit hitter friendly but nothing like the high desert parks. The current series is being played in San Jose.
