Game Wrap 6/17/2016: Giants 5 Rays 1

Jeff Samardzija came within 1 out of pitching a CG shutout and the Giants offense got some timely hits from Brandon Crawford and Gregor Blanco to give him the support he needed and then some.  Key Lines:

Brandon Belt- 2 for 3, 2B, HR(9), BB.  BA= .306.  Belt drew a walk with 2 outs in the first inning to start a 2 run rally.  Later he added in insurance run with a solo HR.

Buster Posey- 1 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .275.  You know Buster is going good when he hits one into the RF corner which he did in the first inning to put runners at 2'nd and 3'rd for Brandon Crawford.

Brandon Crawford- 1 for 3, 2B, BB.  BA= .264.  Archer threw Crawford 4 straight sliders in the first inning and Craw got called for 2 check swing strikes that looked like he actually did check his swing.  Archer then threw him a FB that was up and over the outer half of the plate.  Crawford drove it into the left-CF gap for a 2-out, 2-run double.

Jarrett Parker- 2 for 2, BB.  BA= .228.  Parker did not figure into the scoring but he had a nice night at the plate and seems to have calmed down since Pagan's return and his role is better defined.

Gregor Blanco- 1 for 4.  BA= .252.  Blanco came up with the bases loaded and 1 out in the 4'th inning.   He dumped a single into CF driving in 2 runs to make it 4-0 Giants.

Jeff Samardzija- 9 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 4 K's.  ERA= 3.14.  Shark seemed to have his mechanics back in order.  He pitched to contact, kept his pitch count down and ended up with a CG.  He gave up a solo HR to Brad Miller with 2 outs in the 9'th, but quickly recovered to get the final out.

The Win kept the Giants lead in the NL West at 6.5 games over the Dodgers who squeaked out a 3-2 win over the BrewCrew in 10 innings.

Jake Peavy's start is being pushed back a day to help him recover from some neck stiffness.  Albert Suarez takes the mound tomorrow facing his former organization.  He will be facing LHP Matt Moore who struck out 10 batters in his last start.
