The Giants offense came to life for 6 runs on 3 2-run dingers in the 5'th inning to support another dominant start by Madison Bumgarner. Oh, and Bummy hit one of the HR's himself! Key Lines:
Denard Span- 0 for 3, 2 BB, SB(7). BA= .263. When you are the leadoff hitter in a lineup, it doesn't really matter how you get on base. Span's OBP was .400 in this game.
Joe Panik- 1 for 5, HR(6). BA= .242. Panik got the party started in the 5'th.
Buster Posey- 1 for 4, HR(8), BB. BA= .264. Posey seemed to be going back into a slump, but his bat woke up long enough to drive in Matt Duffy, who was HBP, ahead of him. I didn't hear where this pitch hit duffman. Hopefully not on the same hand the previous one.
Brandon Belt- 2 for 3, 2 2B, BB. BA= .306. Terrific game by Belt, but strangely enough, he did not figure in the scoring.
Madison Bumgarner- 1 for 4, HR(2). BA= .156. Here's a variation of something I saw on somebody's blog today. Now I can't find it but give credit wherever it's due. Since the start of the 2014 season, Madison Bumgarner has hit a HR ever 16.7 PA's while Mike Trout has hit one every 18.2.
Madison Bumgarner- 7.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 11 K's. ERA= 1.91. Another double digit K day for Bumgarner who now has 28 of them which is right up there with all the Giants great except Timmy and he's closing on Timmy fast.
Chris Stratton- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. ERA= 0.00. So far, so good for Stratton in his first 2 innings of MLB experience. Next step is to get the ball in a moderate leverage situation or go multiple innings.

With the Win, the Giants finally gained a game on the Dodgers who lost to the Cubs 7-2 falling 5.5 games behind the NL West leaders. Julio Urias' second MLB start was a big better than his first, but still not good. He'll probably be a beast someday, but not out of the gate. The Rockies also lost to fall 8.5 games off the pace.

The Giants now move on to St Louis for the final leg of this 10 game roadie. Johnny Cueto faces Adam Wainwright in the first game tomorrow evening.

FWIW Doc, the back to back to back 2-run HRs started with Bummy, not Panik, in the fifth and ended with Posey.
ReplyDeleteGreat to finally gain another game on the money-cursed Dodgers.
I was there...a truly dominant game from Bumgarner.
