Ramiro Pena 2B- 1 for 4, HR(4).  BA= .317.
Clayton Blackburn RHP- 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K's, GO/AO= 6/2.  ERA= 3.66.

3 consecutive dominant starts for Blackburn in which he has pitched 19 innings with 20 K's and 4 BB's.

AA  Harrisburg Senators crushed the Richmond Flying Squirrels 8-1(completion of suspended game from 6/3/2016):

Phil McCormick LHP- 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 2.84.
Chase Johnson RHP- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 3.40.
Christian Jones LHP- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 5.25.

High A  Bakersfield Blaze edged out the San Jose Giants 2-1:

Steven Duggar RF- 0 for 1, 4 BB's.  BA= .287.
Jose Vizcaino Jr- 0 for 1, 3 BB's.  BA= .234.
Martin Agosta RHP- 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 2.29.
Dusten Knight RHP- 2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 5.67.
Lukas Schiraldi RHP(Blaze)- 4 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 6 BB, 7 K's.  ERA= 10.24.

Curious lines for Duggar and Viz Jr.  Not clear why they drew so many walks and nobody else in the lineup did.  Fun fact:  Lukas Schiraldi is the son of former MLB pitcher Calvin Schiraldi.

Matt Solter RHP- 5 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K's, GO/AO= 9/1.  ERA= 1.80.
Jake McCasland RHP- 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 1.65.

Solter is a 23 yo 6'3", 220 lb RHP signed out of indy ball in April 2016.  He's been in extended spring training.  He has a successful affiliated ball debut here.

  1. Ramiro Peña got a solo HR to account for the only run, 1 of only 5 hits by the River Cats. Slater and Susac also got one each while Green and Hernandez got shut out.
    Peña, at soon to be 31 yo, has not fared well in the majors, but could this be a breakout year for him? Is that even possible at his age? He has been a fair hitter in the minors but has put together 2 good seasons over .300 after a brief stint in the Bigs. Could he have learned something, or is it too late? Has anyone ever blossomed after 30?

    1. Well, Gregor Blanco was close to 30 yo when he blossomed into the best 4'th OF in baseball. Then there is Ryan Vogelsong, but he is a pitcher. Yeah, guys can figure it out at age 30. They just have a shorter window to have a career in because Father Time catches up with them in their mid-30's just like everybody else.
