6 different Giants hitters got 1 hit but in 6 different innings. I guess you'd call those scattered hits. Pirates catcher Eric Kratz hit a solo HR that Angel Pagan maybe should have caught, to mar another dominating performance by Madison Bumgarner and that was the difference in the game. Key Lines:
Madison Bumgarner- 8 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 8 K's. ERA= 1.85. Bumgarner had one pitch that did not quite get in far enough on the RH hitting Kratz and he jerked it. He probably didn't even get all of it, but it carried to just above the LF fence. Pagan jumped using 2 hands to catch it like it was no problem, except his momentum carried his glove over the fence and he apparently couldn't hang on.

Steven Strasburg was scratched from his start against……oh, he was going against Clayton Kershaw? Dang! He was SO looking forward to that matchup! Yusmeiro Petit took his place and was a gamer but a mere QS is not going to get it done against Kershaw these days. Giants lead in the NL West shrinks to 5.5 games.

Matt Duffy missed his first game after 188 consecutive Games Played. It was revealed after the game that an MRI showed an Achilles tendon strain and he was place on the 2-week DL. Early speculation that the Giants might call up Christian Arroyo was quashed by Bobby Evans who said they might just bring up Mac Williamson and let Ramiro Pena and Conor Gillaspie platoon 3B, at least for now. Duffy said he was surprised the MRI showed something bad enough for force him to the DL, but then went on to describe the whole recovery process and it sure sounded like this will take a lot longer than 2 weeks.

And NOW the Pirates stop scuffling... Well, at least for one game. And poor Duffy, becomes the 'ironman' leader only to be sidelined a day after.
