Game Wrap 6/82016: Giants 2 Red Sox 1

Mac Williamson hit his first major league HR in the bottom of the 8'th inning to give the Giants the lead.  This time, the bullpen hung onto it.  Key Lines:

Brandon Belt- 1 for 3, HR(7).  BA= .298.  Time for Belt to step up and be the leader of the offense.

Mac Williamson- 1 for 3, HR(1).  BA= .190.  Mac finally got the start in LF against the LHP and wouldn't you know it would be David Price?  Price was masterful all night.  He had Mac off balance and reaching on the HR ball, but Mac kept his weight back just enough to hook the ball and it carried to the top of the car hood on the LF fence.  Interestingly, just an inning before, Trevor Brown appeared to get all of one to the exact same location and it died on the warning track.  That's what size and raw power will do for you.  Mac almost gave it back in the 9'th by muffing a flyball in left-CF, but the bullpen held on.

Derek Law- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 2.70.  Law looks to be settling into a steady, confident major league reliever.

Cory Gearrin- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.  ERA= 2.36.  Gearrin looks to be settling into an 8'th inning setup role and where would this team be without him?

Santiago Casilla- 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 2.70.  A couple of nights ago, Casilla might have come unglued when Mac dropped the flyball for a 2-base error on the leadoff batter, but he hung in there and calmly struck out Jackie Bradley, a LH batter.  When the BoSox announced David Ortiz as the PH, Bochy went to the lefty matchup with Javier Lopez and Casilla, while not looking exactly happy, did not complain.

Javier Lopez- 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K.  ERA= 5.06.  Lopez has struggled against LH batters all season, the ones he is on the team to get out.  With an open base against Ortiz, he didn't want to put the winning run on base, but he also did not want to groove one and give up the winning HR.  3 of Ortiz' takes were great takes on review by Kruk on TV.  Lopez then struck out the LH hitting Travis Shaw for out #2.  Hunter Strickland came in to face the RH batter who was pulled back for a LH batter who grounded in to a force out to Brandon Crawford.

The Win extended the Giants lead in the NL West back to 4 games as the Dodgers lost to the Rockies 1-0.

The Giants get a full day off at home before starting a 3 game weekend series against the Dodgers with Johnny Cueto dueling Clayton Kershaw in Game 1 on Friday.  Maybe Madison Bumgarner could play a passable LF and hit cleanup?  Just a thought.

  1. strange season. thanks to the rest of the division being flawed, giants dont have to rush into any drastic moves, but moves they will have to make
in regards to the bosox, i wonder what they do with pablo when he gets off the dl. and while they are a very good team, once again att was the great equalizer
