  2. All the usual caveats apply, but it sure is nice to see Adam Duvall raking again. The warmer weather seems to have turned the tide for him.

  4. Blackburn generated a lot of prospect excitement with his debut last season, and he only continues to generate more and more.

He is absolutely dominating hitters who are 2-4 years older than he is. His performance is reminding me of another young player dominating in Augusta like this, Jonathan Sanchez, only Sanchez was already 22 when doing similar things, whereas Clayton is only 19. Heck, Bumgarner is probably a closer comparison in age, Madison was 18 when doing similar things in Augusta. I know these are left-handers, but any others come to mind?

Assuming he jumps to San Jose in the next month, AA next season, AAA the following season, he could reach the majors for good by age 22, or 2015, if he can continue to do this well up the farm system. Sooner if they want to be aggressive with him and fit AA/AAA in one season.

    1. Blackburn is looking more and more like THE steal of the 2011 draft. For several years now, the Giants have drafted a signable HS pitcher down in the draft. As I've said before, it's a low risk, high reward strategy. If only 1 out of 5 or so hit it big, it's a huge plus for the organization. Looks like Blackburn might be that one big hit. First big test will be the Cal League though. If history of any guide, the Giants will keep him in Augusta all season no matter how much he dominates then start him in SJ next year with a promo to Richmond mid-season if he goes well in SJ.

    2. Just off the top of my head, I seem to remember two right handed teenagers who dominated in the SAL - Boof and Cainer

  5. What wasn't mentioned is that Roger Kieschnick was injured trying to catch the Rivercats' walkoff homer at the wall. Eyewitness reports were that he stayed down for several minutes and in a possible coincidence, paramedics were seen leaving the stadium. He has been placed on the DL.
