Down on the Farm: 6/10//2011

AAA Salt Lake City Bees edged the Fresno Grizzlies 6-5:

Mike Fontenot(2B)- 1 for 1, BB. BA= .333.
Pablo Sandoval(3B)- 1 for 4, BB. BA= .400.
Thomas Neal(DH)- 2 for 4, BB. BA= .340.
Hector Sanchez(C)- 1 for 3, BB. BA= .333.
Shane Loux(RHP)- 6 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K's, GO/AO= 11/2.

Kind of a hodge-podge lineup of rehab MLB'ers, prospects(Neal), recent callups(Sanchez). Kind of fun to watch.

AA New Hampshire Fisher Cats downed the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-2:

Charlie Culberson(2B)- 1 for 4, HR(4). BA= .266.
Roger Kieschnick(RF)- 2 for 4, HR(4). BA= .250.

Kieschnick's BA is slowly rising.

A+ San Jose Giants blanked the Modesto Nuts 2-0 in 13 innings:

Tommy Joseph(C)- 2 for 5, 2 2B, BB. BA= .240.
Kelvin Marte(LHP)- 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 2.36.
Hector Correa(RHP)- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 1.98.
Mitch Lively(RHP)- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 1.99.
Heath Hembree(RHP)- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, Save(19). ERA= 0.79.

Joseph should be getting the bulk of catching duties with Sanchez promoted to Fresno. Correa seems like he's been around forever, but he's only 23 yo. He has a K/BB of 36/12 in 41 IP. Lively seems like more of an organizational player at age 25. He's got a K/BB of 34/14 in 31.2 IP.

Low A Savannah Sand Gnats beat the Augusta Greenjackets 8-1:

Adam Duvall(3B)- 3 for 4, 2 2B. BA= .254.
Seth Rosin(RHP)- 1.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 0 K's. ERA= 4.31.

Not much to say here. Rough outing for Rosin.

DSL Braves edged the Giants 4-3:

Rando Moreno(SS, 19 yo)- 2 for 4, 3B. BA= .385.
Alberto Robles(2B, 20 yo)- 3 for 4. BA= .395.
Yeini Martinez(RHP, 20 yo)- 8 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 2.31.

Addendum: Mike Fontenot left the Fresno game early due to tightness in the groin, the same area that put him on the DL in the first place.

  1. i noticed that most of the guys who are having offensive success in the eastern are guys who are repeating the league...takes a lot of time to learn how to hit in that league

    the sj guys are insane

espinelli is not gonna last with the giants org...he doesnt have it any more..sad

news on the draft...looks like shawon jr, while happy being drafted, has chosen to go to vandy...he was tweeting how excited he was to be starting summer school soon....at vandy

urban interviewed sr...missed all the emotional stuff he couldve gotten into...but did get out of dunston that he was happy the giants did not draft jr...doesnt want the kid to experience any extra pressure to perform for daddy

  3. I would think Panik would go to Salem-Keizer, but the way things are going I wouldn't be shocked if he wound up playing either SS or 2B in SF!

  4. baggs is reporting that he signed for very close to the 1.1 mil slot

so to those that poopooed the pic...that is why he was chosen in the first...and not lower

ez to sign and at slot level money

was a smart choice...and frees up bonus monies for the other picks

ya...i guess he goes to salk and plays low pressure ball for the rest of the season

wonder how quickly they are moving to sign everyone else

  5. Working on my draft breakdown now, but the more it sinks in, the more I love the Panik pick. Reasonably high ceiling and a very high floor compared to available HS and even college arms. Maybe not as high a ceiling as, say, Brian Goodwin, but a much higher floor at a position of greater need.
