Well, THAT was embarrassing, seeing as the wife is a Twins fan and all. Madison Bumgarner had a historically bad start allowing 8 hits before striking out opposing pitcher Carl Pavano and then allowed another for good measure before being pulled after allowing 8 runs in 0.1 IP. Key Lines:
Eli Whiteside- 2 for 3, HR(2). BA= .207.
Bullpen- 8.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K's.
Gotta think Bumgarner's nightmare was a fluke. He had pitched something like 10 QS's in a row prior to this. Still a very embarrassing and disconcerting start for the kid.
With the Loss, the Giants dropped their 5'th game in a row and slipped 0.5 games behind the Dangerous D'Backs in the NL West.
Ryan Vogelsong tries to be the stopper tomorrow against Nick Blackburn.

couple things
ReplyDeletemost of the hits were coming with 2ks on the batter...madbum was catching too much of the plate with his out pitches
other thing...the d stunk it up in the first...and when it comes to playing miggs..why is bochy still going with the book?
3rd thing...they are again pimping zito
he got to face the bees twice
if that is enought to get a pitcher back in the bigs...bring up loux
4th thing....gladden was one of my fav players as a kid...he has grown into a total jerk
Mota did a nice job saving the bullpen going 4 2/3 innings. It might make a difference for the rest of this weeks games. Madbum had a similar outing last season against the Reds, 2 2/3 innings 8 runs 7 hits, and he bounced back quite nicely.
ReplyDeleteEsquer coach of the year
ReplyDeletenice tip of the cap to a man who really did an amazing job
win or lose on thursday...he and his squad are absolute winners
Going into the postgame show, Reis and Bip Roberts mentioned that the Twins had watched a ton of film on Bumgarner. I'm guessing they either picked up a strong trend or noticed something that tips his pitches. Say what you will about the D, but most of those hits were smoked.
ReplyDeleteWell, you don't see these kinds of games often at AT&T. I just hope this doesn't turn into a wild tailspin. Too many games left to give up hope now.
ReplyDeleteAnon, thank you for reminding me that there are positives to be pulled out of any situation.
