Game Wrap 6/23/2011: Giants 2 Twins 1

The Giants offense and Brian Wilson managed to turn a dominating start by Tim Lincecum into a nail biter at the end, but we wouldn't want it any other way, would we? Key Lines:

Aaron Rowand- 2 for 3. BA= .245. Gamer is hitting .273 over his last 10 games but has just 1 RBI and 0 Runs to show for it. Still, he might actually be a better option than Andres Torres right now, much as I hate to say it.

Miguel Tejada- 2 for 3. BA= .226. Miggy is hitting .270 with an OBP of .325 over his last 10 games. That's no great shakes, of course, but look at the rest of the Giants lineup.

Tim Lincecum- 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 12 K's, GO/AO= 8/0. ERA= 3.16. OK, we can forget all about the talk of what's wrong with Timmy. There's nothing wrong with Timmy! I do think he's more comfortable with CStew behind the plate, though.

With the W, the Giants remained 0.5 games behind the Arizona D'Backs who defeated the KC Royals 5-3. The rest of the NL West was idle which means the Rockies, Dodgers and Padres all lost 0.5 games in the standings to 4, 8 and 10 games respectively.

The Cleveland Indians come to town for another interleague series starting tomorrow evening with Jonathan Sanchez taking the mound against Carlos Carrasco.

  1. Giants Baseball: Just Look at the Rest of the Lineup!

the hits by tejada were a groundball on a hit and run hole and a "double" which was really a missed popup into the OF

    Rowand got HBP'd again.

Javier Lopez pitched a gem of an inning. What a find he was.

  2. im amazed that miggs was given the double...that was a big fat e...the ball was not hit hard, just lost in the sun...that is why they make glasses

and miggs should only be at ss when timmy is pitching...

i think that torres is playing hurt

ok...so bochy didnt break timmy...but he sure didnt leave him in to throw 130 pitches again

the giants pitching...when it is totally on...is sick

and right after the game, the twinkies pitcher tweeted the following

“He’s nasty. I don’t get it. I don’t get how he does it. I need pitching lessons (from him).”

too bad that riggleman stole all of today's headlines

my bears got crushed by va....knew they couldnt deal with being a starter short

but great run and great story....

  3. Yeah, Miggy has actually been pretty good in limited play since June 2nd, in 13 games, hitting .292/.346/.398/.742, with 5 doubles out of 14 hits, and .326 BABIP. His batting is still good too, only 5 K's in 48 AB.

And he's been like that all season, not striking out much, as his main problem has been two-fold. First, his BABIP had been colder than ice. Had it been his career .294 or three prior year's .300, his numbers would have been much better. Second, his power had been colder than ice too.

The average shortstop is hitting .262/.314/.366/.680, if Miggy can hit above that, particularly with a much higher than average OBP, since he's been hitting 2nd, then he probably adds more value to the team than Crawford right now, who is not hitting for much lately.

I haven't given up on Brandon though. He has hit only .183/246/.239/.486 after his grand slam first game, but he's suffering whatever Tejada was before: very low BABIP and ISO. However you slice it though, his strikeout rate has been good, period, and excellent compared to his rates in the minors. If they keep him in there long enough, the BABIP gods should revert to mean for him too, and hopefully ISO as well.

Another series win, just keep them coming!

Go Bears! They probably got drunk last night...
