Game Wrap 6/2/2017: Giants 10 Phillies 0

The team with the 3'rd worse record in MLB(Giants) took on the team with the worst(Phillies).  Ty Blach only needed 1 run of support but the Giants offense scored early and often and kept adding on for a runaway win.  Key Lines:

Denard Span CF- 5 for 6, 2 2B.  BA= .260.  Kuip's keys to the game included "setting the table" and Span was apparently listening.

Eduardo Nunez 3B- 3 for 5, 2 2B, BB.  BA= .288.  Span and Nunez were on base a combined 9 out of  12 PA's.

Brandon Crawford SS- 1 for 3, BB, 2 SF.  BA= .262.  Good situational hitting by Crawford who drove in 2 with SF's.

Joe Panik 2B- 2 for 6, 2B.  BA= .245. Giants could use some hot hitting from Joe Panik who has been slumping.

Austin Slater RF- 1 for 5, BB.  BA= .200.  Slaters first basehit drove in a run and he laters scored during the same rally.  His parents and sister were watching from the front row.

Ty Blach LHP- 0 for 3, 3 BB.  BA= .176.  Blach showed a good eye and walked his first 3 times up to extend rallies.  He struck out his last 3 AB's.  Last Giants pitcher to walk 3 times in a game was Ray Sadecki.

Ty Blach LHP- 9 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's, GO/AO= 15/4.  ERA= 3.24.  Blach has a reputation for being a control/command pitcher.  He had pinpoint command in this one and was never really threatened.  He threw 112 pitches in the CG performance.

It's Johnny Cueto's turn tomorrow facing RHP Ben Lively, making his MLB debut.

  1. This is the Eduardo Núñez that the Giants wanted!
    Last 15 games: .356/.367/.508, 6/7 stolen bases, 2 HRs, 10 RBIs.
    Too little too late?

  2. I don't really read at MCC much anymore. Definitely don't comment. But I was bored and hopped on over there this AM. found this to be interesting:

"Blach was the first pitcher to walk three times in a game since Aaron Cook in 2009, and Cook was the first pitcher to do it since Joaquin Andujar in 1984. This doesn’t happen often."

Also, Grant made a Jim Palmer comparison was with Blach. Palmer, as we old people know, was not only a well known underwear model for Jockey, but had a nice side-career as a HOF pitcher for the Orioles while averaging a mere 5K/9 for his career.

  3. Just hoping Cueto doesn't diminish his value so that he won't opt out -- or he wont be tradeable in July!
His effort wasn't so bad today but Hunter showed why he maybe should take his suspension now.
Buster continues his 0/1 RBI streak -- 56 Giants' games without a multiple RBI game. Yeah, yeah, he gets walked a lot. It would help if he had a clutch hitter behind him but the Giants don't seem to have one of those this year. Maybe Núñez?
How come so many opponents have Cy Young on their staffs?
