This Giants team is not going to win many high scoring games and this game did nothing to dispel that notion and the Phillies got Matt Moore out of the game early and then poured it on the bullpen in the final 2 innings. Key Lines:
Eduardo Nunez 3B- 1 for 4, HR(3), BB. BA= .286. I like Nunez, but he's going to be a FA at the end of the season. He has to have some trade value. Giants need to get what they can for him.
Buster Posey 1B/C- 1 for 2, BB, SF. BA= .343. Buster just keeps chugging along. He's one big contract that has paid off for the Giants.
Brandon Crawford SS- 2 for 4, HR(4). BA= .268. Crawford's contract is looking good so far too.
Matt Moore LHP- 4.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 K. ERA= 5.22. Moore has two team friendly options for 2018 and 2019. All of the talk is about possibly shopping Johnny Cueto. What about Matt Moore? You'd have to get a significant haul but I say see what teams are willing to offer.

Giants move on to Milwaukee with Jeff Samardzija opening the series against Junior Guerra, who is off the DL and pitched very well in his first game back.

More and more we remember how great Affeldt, Romo, Lopez, and Casilla were for the Giants.
ReplyDeleteFirst inning and a half in Milwaukee and it's ALL same'ole same'ole.
ReplyDeleteAn unforced error gives Brewers a run, Shark is pitching well into the 7th and should have the lead.
ReplyDeleteGiants continue not scoring/advancing runners.
Same results, different city.
It really makes no sense, amateurs tighten up in the clutch, not professionals.
Can anyone explain why Buster Posey is batting:
ReplyDelete.381 with bases empty
.290 with runners on
.242 with RISP
.200 with runners on 3rd & 2 outs (1-5, 3 walks)
.000 with bases loaded (only 3 PA, 1 RBI)
My guess is the Giants have no threat behind him, he gets a lot of bad pitches, andhe does the best he can knowing it's ALL up to him.
As Bryce said "Cueto started the 7th on 108 pitches. What's the upside there?" why did Samardzija start the 8th with 103 itches?
ReplyDeleteA DP saves the day with 113 pitches and another hit wakes Bochy up with a runner on 1st and 119 pitches. Strickland is in to hold. High leverage.
Just like 75% of the team, Bruce is in a slump, too.
Eduardo Núñez has been sensational for the last month. Maybe Giants will make out on him, not too many guys bat .320 for a month mid season. Ought to be worth at least an Adalberto Mejía for someone NOT in the NL West.
ReplyDeleteHouston is doing great but they could use an upgrade at 3rd
