Game Wrap 6/17/2017: Rockies 5 Giants 1

The Giants scored a total of 17 runs in the first two games of the series and lost both.  Today they held the Rockies to 5 runs…..and still lost!  The other story of this game was clutch hitting by the Rockies who scored all 5 of their runs on 2-out hits and the lack of clutch hitting by the Giants who were 1 for 7 with 2 outs and runners on base.  Key Lines:

Kelby Tomlinson SS- 0 for 3, 2 BB.  BA= .261.
Joe Panik 2B- 3 for 5.  BA= .274.
Hunter Pence RF- 2 for 5.  BA= ..247.

Giants first 3 hitters went a combined 7 for 14 and did not figure into any of the scoring.  As Vin Scully would say, "go figure"!  The Giants lone run scored when Nick Hundley hit a 1-out double in the 4'th inning and Gorkys Hernandez drove him in with a 2-out single.  BTW, Gorkys is 7 for 14 in June so far after hitting .154 and .196 in April and May respectively.

Matt Cain RHP- 5 IP, 9 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K's.  ERA= 4.99.  This qualifies as a good start by Cainer these days.  What isn't different is the lack of run support.

Ty Blach tries to stave off the 4 game sweep tomorrow facing a guy who shuts down the Giants, Tyler Chatwood.

  1. Bryan Morris is either ON or OFF: in 18 appearances he's been effective 14 times and terrible in 4. Don't think that works. When the Giants were down 2-1 there was some hope but ...
With Hernandez hitting (looked good in the field too -- he ran down a couple long flies) there were only two holes in the lineup for a change, Hill and #9, the two you know you're going to get. With all the RHBs in the game and Núñez on the mend, Belt pinch hit with 2 on in the 6th, but wiffed against the lefty. Maybe the Giants secret weapon -- Ty Blach -- should've hit! That was the end of the game for SF, Cain came out and Morris came in.
Giants now on track for 102 losses, Rockies for 102 wins!
Roger Craig finished the season 6-12 managing the last 100-loss season, then went on to
