Game Wrap 6/14/2017: Royals 7 Giants 2

Right now the Giants are not fielding a competitive team.  On any given day, they cannot score runs against average MLB pitching and cannot shut down an average MLB lineup.  No bueno!  Key Lines:

Denard Span CF- 2 for 4, HBP.  BA= .259.  The first two batters in the lineup reached base 5 times out of 10 PA's.  The rest of the lineup reached 7 out of 29 PA's with 0 XBH's.

Eduardo Nunez 3B- 2 for 5, 2B.  BA= .301.  Nunez had the only XBH in the game.

Joe Panik 2B- 2 for 4.  BA= .259.  Panik missed a week with a sprained thumb.  2 hits in first game back.

Austin Slater LF- 1 for 4.  BA= .344.  Slater drove in the first Giants run with a single.

Johnny Cueto RHP- 5.2 IP, 10 H, 5 R, 3 BB, 5 K's.  ERA= 4.57.  Right now, Cueto is not a lock to opt out of his contract and not a lock to be tradeable at the deadline.

Giants hit the road to start a 4 game series in Coors Field which would seem unlikely to go well.  Matt Moore faces Jeff Hoffman in the series opener tonight.

    1. I got no real argument with that. We're being the ****ing Padres! The Padres!

  2. It's funny how the "beats" were ragging on the lineup Sunday calling them the "bomb squad." But that all blew up (pun intended) in their face when they scored 13.

  3. Whether it's Slater or Tomlinson or Mac or whoever Giants will need 3 OFers in 2018 with Span and Pence lucky to get 100 games apiece, another year mileage on aging bodies.
Slade Heathcott has played all year in CF, has some major league bonafides, he should get a shot this year. Last 10 games: .300, 3 HRs, 5 RBIs, 4 walks and a bunch of Ks

In Reno yesterday, Stratton had a 7-inning shutout then got no one out in the 8th gave up 3 runs.
Crick mostly put out the fire in the 8th
Okert got 3rd out in 8th, then HR in 9th

  4. Yeah, Cueto is really scuffling. I looked at his pitchFX data. Every pitch value for every pitch is well below his career averages. I mean, NOTHING is working well and, at best, his slider and FB are just plain average.
