Game Wrap 6/5/2017: Giants 7 Brewers 2

The Giants got a Dominant Start from Jeff Samardzija. Aaron Hill broke open a 2-2 tie with a 2-run PH double in the 8'th inning and the Giants tacked on 3 more runs in the 9'th to win going away.  Key Lines:

Eduardo Nunez 3B- 2 for 5,  HR(4).  BA= .289.  Nunez continues to swing a hot bat. He hit .307 for the month of May and is at .389 in 4 games so far in June.

Brandon Belt 1B- 2 for 4, BB.  BA= .239.  Belt is on a pace for an fWAR of 3.2.  Not as good as last year but enough to earn back his salary.

Buster Posey C- 2 for 5.  BA= .345.   Pretty typical game for Buster this year.  Lots of basehits.  Not a lot of power.

Brandon Crawford SS- 0 for 2, 3 BB.  BA= .264.  Just an interesting line for Crawford.

Aaron Hill PH- 1 for 1, 2B.  BA= .167.  Hill's PH double down the LF line broke open a 2-2 tie in the 8'th.

Kelby Tomlinson PH- 1 for 1.  BA= .267.  Kelby's PH single to lead off the 9'th inning ignited a 3-run rally.

Jeff Samardzija RHP- 7.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 10 K's.  ERA= 4.29.  The W-L and ERA are ugly but don't give an accurate picture of how well Shark has pitched or how valuable he's been.  For starters, he's been statistically extremely unlucky with an FIP of 3.15 and an xFIP of 2.84.  If you prefer real stats, his K/BB is 59/1 since the first of May and 6 of his last 8 Starts have been QS.  Shark is one player I would not want to see traded unless the haul was extraordinary.  He eats innings and while he will have his Disaster Starts, he will also give you a lot of Quality and Dominant Starts.

Matt Cain takes the ball tomorrow evening facing Chase Anderson who has been pitching extraordinarily well lately.

  1. After last night's game, Samardzija is 25th in quality starts with 7. Cueto is tied for 12th with 8. Moore & Blach are tied for 35th with 6; however, Blach (to his credit) has done it with just 8 starts while everyone else at 35th have at 11 or 12. Cain and Bumgarner both have 4. Of course, Cain's pitched 11 games to Bumgarner's 4...

I think Belt will, eventually, pick up his average. His BAPIP of .284 is about 60 points under his usual BABIP while the rest of his numbers seem to be within his historical averages/norms.

    1. Yep. I came on to comment the same about belt. His BABIP is very low. Should even out.

    2. Does Belt's hitting into the shift have anything to do with a low BABIP?
Remember "Hit 'em where they ain't"?
The corollary is don't hit them where they are.
Unless, maybe, if your name is Ted Williams.

  2. Orlando Calixte had a pretty bad game fielding LF. That throw was baaaaaaaad. I hate AT&T U-Verse. MLB.TV lags all the time streaming games on it so I missed the Hill double to take the lead. Oh well, Giants won! That's the important part. That error on Nunez's pop up and the subsequent bad throw to 2B was crazy. I thought Kuip was going to have a heart attack.

    1. No,it was so bad that it went past the event-horizon of bad and right into humorous.
