Down on the Farm: 07-20-2010

AAA Salt Lake City Bees outlasted the Fresno Grizzlies 9-8 in 13 innings:

John Bowker- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(11), 2 BB. BA= .314.
Tyler Graham- 2 for 3, SB(24). BA= .342.
Ben Copeland- 2 for 5, HR(3). BA= .255.

I wonder when Johnny B will get his next chance? Doesn't seem like there are any openings in SF right now.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels topped the Trenton Thunder 8-3:

Sharlon Schoop- 3 for 3, HR(1), BB. BA= .286.
Felix Romero- 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.67.

Schoop is the forgotten man this year. He was out from 4/8-7/8 and has played just 6 games since. Great game last night to lead the Squirrels though.

High A Stockton Ports downed the San Jose Giants 8-6:

Francisco Peguero- 3 for 5, HR(5), SB(34). BA= .301.
Ehire Adrianza- 1 for 3, 2 BB, SB(24). BA= .260.
Monell, Fairley, Flores- 2 hits each.

Peguero played CF in this game.

Low A Augusta Greenjackets edged the Greensboro Grasshoppers 2-1:

Ryan Cavan- 1 for 4, HR(10). BA= .277.
Ryan Lollis- 2 for 3. BA= .290.
Craig Clark- 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 3.09.
Zack Wheeler- 0.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K. ERA= 4.75.
Jose Valdez- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 4.35.

More curious use of Zack Wheeler.

Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes defeated Vancouver Canadians 5-2:

Julio Izturis- 2 for 5. BA= .291
Raynor Campbell- 3 for 4, 2B, S. BA= .270.
Jesse Shriner- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .247.
Carlos Quintana- 2 for 3, 2 2B, BB. BA= .303.
Edward Concepcion- 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 4.68.
Addison Proszek- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.

After a rough start, Concepcion has a line of 3-1, 2.25, 28 IP, 12 BB, 23 K's in his last 6 starts. 1.89 ERA over his last 5 starts. Proszek makes his second appearance after moving up from AZL. I missed the first one. Proszek is a big boy listed at 6'5", 260 lbs.

Rookie AZL Giants top the A's 3-2:

Austin Fleet- 4.2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 2.33.
Stephen Shackleford- 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 2.30.

Shack's season line stands at 1-1, 2.30, 15.2 IP, 3 BB, 20 K's, GO/AO= 3.17.

DSL Giants game was postponed.

  1. How old is Shack? Great numbers though.

Bowker is probably there as long as Schierholtz is doing enough to keep management interested in giving him starting time. If Bowker comes up, I have to think that Nate has been relegated to utility role on team.

FYI, Jim Callis of BA tweeted this: Gary Brown isn't super-elite but has Boras Corp, so expect August. @sancarlosbrad: Are Giants going to sign 1st rder last minute as usual?

Then again, August is only 11 days away....
