Ricky Nolasco outpitched Barry Zito who gave up HR's to Dan Uggla and Mike Stanton as the Marlins led from wire to wire and held on for a 4-3 win. Key lines:
Buster Posey- 1 for 4. BA= .368. Buster extends his hitting streak to 19 games, but did not contribute to the scoring in this game.
Aaron Rowand- 2 for 2, HR(9). BA= .243. Rowand entered the game as a PH in the 7'th and hit a 2 run HR that was disputed by the Marlins OF's who claimed a fan caught it on the field side of the fence. After review, the umps let the HR stand saying the fan touched it, but it looked like it was over the fence. Rowand also scored the third run in the 9'th.
Barry Zito- 6.1 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.49. Zito was a gamer last night hanging in there without his best stuff, but Nolasco was better and the Marlins bullpen was able to outlast the Giants comeback.
With the loss, the Giants fall to 3.5 games behind the division leading Padres. The Dodgers were idle so remained 6 games behind in 3'rd place. Colorado lost to the Phillies 5-4 to fall a full 7 games behind in 4'th place while the last place D'Backs were idle. The Cincinnati Reds lost to the BrewCrew 3-2 so the Giants remain in the Wild Card lead by 1.5 games.
Matt Cain has a very tough assignment tonight going up against the current front-runner for the NL Cy Young award, Josh Johnson. Strangely, the Giants haven't done that bad against elite pitchers this year, so you never know, but with Cain's history of poor run support, you have to go into the is game without a lot of confidence as a Giants fan.
