Game Wrap 07-15-2010: Giants 2 Mets 0

This was a win the Giants needed in so many ways, and they got it. They needed to keep the momentum from the last week prior to the AS break going, and they did. They needed Timmy to re-establish his dominance. He responded with a complete game shutout. They needed Pablo to get off to a good start to the second half, and he did. They needed to Buster Posey to successfully catch Tim Lincecum. Did he ever? All in all, a very nice W for the Giants to start the second half of the season. Key lines:

Aaron Rowand- 2 for 4. BA= .242. We'll see if Gamer can dig himself out of his hole. He's 5 for 13 in his last 3 games.

Buster Posey- 2 for 4. BA= .355. Buster figured in the scoring of both runs. He singled and scored the first run ahead of Panda's double. Then, in the bottom of the 8'th he drove in the insurance run on an excuse-me dribbler down the first base line that went as a fielder's choice when Ike Davis tried unsuccessfully to get the runner coming home. Buster also gunned down Carlos Beltran on an attempted steal to put a chill in the Mets running game.

Pablo Sandoval- 1 for 3, 2B. BA= .263. An encouraging start to the second half for Pablo who looked a bit more comfortable out there. He looked like he may have lost some weight in the postgame interview. Not sure if that's a good thing given what's going on in his life right now.

Tim Lincecum- 9 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 2.94. A complete game shutout for Timmy's 50'th career victory in his 109'th start. THe only Giants pitcher to get there faster? Juan Marichal, at 97 games! Timmy had it all going tonight, a crisp heater, knee buckling curve, and lunge inducing changeup with the bottom dropping out.

Good game to start the second half!

The W moved to Giants up by 0.5 games to 3.5 behing the division leading Padres. The Dodgers were the only other NL West team to play dropping a 7-1 decision to the Cards and in the process dropping 2.5 games behind the Pads. Colorado and Arizona were idle to stay 2 and 17.5 games behind respectively.

Barry Zito gets the call tomorrow night and will try to keep the good mojo going against Jon Niese.
