AAA Fresno Grizzlies edged the Tacoma Rainiers 8-7:
Eugenio Velez- 2 for 5, 2 SB(24). BA= .306.
Matt Downs- 2 for 5. BA= .292.
Tyler Graham- 2 for 4, HR(1). BA= .358.
Henry Sosa- 3.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K's. ERA= 3.07.
If Andres Torres has to go on the DL, I think I'd rather see Velez called up to play CF than just putting Rowand out there. Better yet, DFA Velez and give Tyler Graham a chance!
AA RIchmond Flying Squirrels defeated the Altoona Curve 4-1:
Darren Ford- 2 for 5, SB(27). BA= .232.
Nick Noonan- 2 for 5. BA= .255.
Felix Romero- 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 3.63.
High A Stockton Ports topped the San Jose Giants 5-2:
Francisco Peguero- 0 for 3, 2 BB, SB(29). BA= .289.
Michael Ambort- 1 for 4, HR(1), BB. BA= .185.
Johnny Monell- 2 for 3, 2 2B, BB. BA= .241.
Good to see Peguero take a couple of walks. Monell is hitting .424/ .525/.848 with 3 HR's over his last 10 games.
Low A Kannapolis Intimidators out hit the Augusta Greenjackets 11-10:
Evan Crawford- 2 for 5. BA= .255.
Nick Liles- 3 for 5, 3B. BA= .329.
Tommy Joseph- 2 for 5, 2B, HR(11). BA= .230.
Hector Sanchez- 3 for 5, HR(4). BA= .283.
Tommy Joseph is hitting .270/.341/.649 with 4 HR's over his last 10 games. Hector Sanchez, who has been one of my favorite players in the system for a couple of years is heating up, hitting .375/.419/.525 over his last 10 games.
Short Season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes slipped past the Tri-City Dust Devils 3-2:
Jose Medina- 2 for 5, 2B, SB(1). BA= .303.
Adam Duvall- 1 for 3, HR(2), HBP. BA= .295.
Taylor Rogers- 6 IP, 9 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 6 K's, GO/AO= 10/1.
Stephen Harrold- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 0.00.
Mario Rodriguez- 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 2.50.
Rookie AZL Giants outscored the Cubs 9-8:
Carlos Willoughby- 4 for 5, 2B, 3B. BA= .333.
Jose Cuevas- 2 for 5, 2B. BA= .222.
Charlie Jones- 1 for 5, 2B, OF Assist. BA= .294.
Brice Cutspec- 1 for 5, HR(1). BA= .226.
John Eshleman- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .229.
Stephen Shackleford- 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 2.53.
Jacob Shadle- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K's.
Gotta be excited about Willoughby. I'd like to see him promoted aggressively. Charlie Jones is playing CF to add to the awesomeness of that draft pick.
DSL Giants held off the Cubs 5-4 in a game completed early after 7 innings:
Christian Paulino- 3 for 3. BA= .287.
Leonardo Fuentes- 1 for 3. OF Assist. BA= .248.
Marvin Barrios- 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 0.50.
Barrios line so far: 2-0, 0.50, 18 IP, 1 BB, 16 K's.

It's like the old song: "All we are saying, is give Tyler Graham a chance."
ReplyDeleteGotta say I still believe in Nick Noonan, although he obviously won't be rocketing through the minors. Slow and steady works okay, too.
I'm with you, Doc, on the Carlos Willoughby bandwagon. We see what a disruption Andres Torres can cause opposing pitchers; wouldn't it be great to continue that into the next generation of Giants hitters?
I'm also a Hector Sanchez fan. It's good to see him getting established in Augusta. And I can't help but be intrigued with OF Chuckie Jones. I'll be following him as well.
Using a very simple mathematical model based on your statements, and without having to develop an OGC dissertation (just kidding), one can come to the very logical conclusion: DFA Rowand. Not trying to start a flame war, just being a nerd...
ReplyDeleteI think a strong case can be made for just eating Aaron Rowand's contract. He's taking up playing time and roster space that would be better used on someone else. It's become highly unlikely that he ever turns this around for a sustained period We've already spent the $$$$, so they are gone no matter what. I know it's hard for an organization to just write off that kind of money, but it's already gone and it ain't coming back.
ReplyDeletewho's this shackleford guy? he's had 5 shutout appearances
ReplyDeleteStephen Shackleford, 35'th round draft pick out of Savannah College of Art and Design, a well known baseball talent factory. LOL!
ReplyDeleteReally Dr.B???
ReplyDeleteIsn't it the player not the school?
BUT
in 2007 Ryan Pope, RHP, was drafted from Savannah College of Art and Design in the 3rd round to the Yankees
in 2008 Richard Sullivan, LHP, was drafted in the 11th round to the Braves.
