Down on the Farm: 07-01-2010

Sacramento River Cats beat the Fresno Grizzlies 6-3:

Eugenio Velez-1 for 4, HR(3). BA= .305.
Emmanuel Burriss- 1 for 4, 2B. BA= .265.
Matt Yourkin- 7.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 4.09.

AA Richmond Flying Squirrels edged the Erie Sea Wolves 2-1 in 12 innings:

Brandon Crawford- 2 for 6, 2B, HR(12). BA= .242.
Clayton Tanner- 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 4 K's. ERA= 3.28.

Tanner's season line stands at 4-5, 3.28, 82.1 IP, 35 BB, 39 K's. That K/BB has to improve for sustained success. On the other hand, he's maintained a GO/AO=2 which is really good.

High A Lancaster Jet Hawks scored 5 runs in the last two innings to edge the San Jose Giants 5-4:

Francisco Peguero- 2 for 4, 3B, BB, SB(27). BA= .282.
Brandon Belt- 2 for 3, 2B, 2 BB, 2 SB(18). BA= .383.
Kyle Nicholson- 7.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 7 K's. ERA= 5.96.
Jason Stoffel- 1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K. ERA= 6.04

I love Belt's lines. They are so busy! Nicholson has been pitching much better lately. Here, he took a shutout into the 8'th inning and had a very nice K/BB.

Low A(game 1) Charleston River Dogs topped the Augusta Greenjackets 4-2:

Luke Anders- 2 for 3, 2B. BA= .299.
Jorge Bucardo- 5.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 2.23.

Low A(game 2) Charleston River Dogs made it a sweep over the Augusta Greenjackets 4-1:

Ryan Cavan- 2 for 4, 2B, HR(8). BA= .276.
Dan Cook- 3 for 3, 2B. BA= .285.
Craig Clark- 5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 6 K's. ERA= 3.60.

Clark must be on a rehab stint.

Short Season Everett Aquasox defeated the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 6-4:

Julio Izturis- 2 for 5. BA= .364.
Ryan Scoma- 2 for 4, 2B. BA= .455.
Cameron Lamb- 3 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 0 K's. ERA= 7.50.
Brennan Flick- 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K's. ERA= 3.09.

Still sorting out who's who in the short season leagues.

Rookie AZL Giants were idle.

DSL Giants trounced the Cubs 8-2:

Joan Gregorio- 5 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 K's. ERA= 1.72.

You'd think there would be some great offensive lines in a game like this, but the Giants scored all those runs off just 5 hits. They had 11 BB's plus 3 HBP's.

Michael Main is being assigned to AA Richmond. His line for High A Bakersfield was pretty good: 5-3, 3.45, 91.1 IP, 21 BB's, 72 K's. Especially like that K/BB. He's just 21 yo and still has a very high ceiling. The Giants have made two good pickups from the Ranger's organization in the last year: Main and Edwin Escobar.

  1. FYI, Belt has been promoted to AA (finally!), Baggarly announced it yesterday in one of his blog posts.

  2. Ooh, good news! If there's an adjustment to AA, he can be getting that out of the way this year instead of spending half of next season struggling.
