Carlos Rodon LHP put the team on his back and carried them through a complete game masterpiece while Wilmer Flores 2B/1B provided the 2-run HR in the 8'th inning that was the difference in the game.
Rodon's line: 9 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 12 K. ERA= 2.70. Last pitch of the game was a 99 MPH fastball to strike out Jorge Alfaro DH.

Transaction Watch:
Luis Gonzalez OF was reinstated from the 10-day IL. He went 1 for 3, 2B, BB. His .302 BA is the highest of the starting lineup by .030 and .043 higher than #3.
In a bit of a surprise, Jake McGee LHP was DFA'd. McGee has had a terrible season in which it seemed his lack of a second pitch remained an issue after he returned from the IL with improved velocity. The Giants still owe him half of his $2.5 M salary plus the $0.5 M buyout of next year's option. My guess is he surfaces with the Dodgers and and gets the final out of the World Series(only half joking).
In a separate set of moves, Zack Littell RHP was place on the IL and Yunior Marte RHP recalled from AAA Sacramento.
Dominant performance by Rodon, fun to watch, since you don't see it that often. He should make the all star team. Kap should tell Villar that they want to see what he can do for the rest of the season not not to worry about being sent down. If Kap was not going to use McGee in high leverage situations, they may as well DFA McGee. Changes may be coming.
ReplyDeleteI went to the game on Thursday and it's the least amount of fans I have seen at Petco in my 10 years going. There were still some, but a far cry from the 50%+ that I'm used to seeing. Then I saw the stats that the padres are pulling more fans then the Giants. Is COVID still affecting the bay that much or are fans checking out because the front office went pretty thrifty again and didn't spend what many fans expected them t
ReplyDeleteProbably multiple factors. l think there are still a lot of people rightfully concerned about COVID and crowds but attendance started to sag before COVID. I think a lot of people have been priced out of the market. You can get an MLB TV or streaming subscription for about the price of two of the cheaper seats in the house. Lastly, the heroes fans identified with during the championship run are either retired, playing for another team or clearly on the downsides of their careers. The farm system has failed to replace those players and FZ's regime has focused on shorter term contracts which don't give fans long enough to emotionally bond with the players. I mean, Kevin Gausman was a great find and a great story, but how many fans did/do you see wearing Gausman jerseys?
DeleteSpeaking about players fans can get attached too.
ReplyDeleteI think Farhan should try to re up Joc before the end of the season.
Age is still on his and he still hits for power.
