Game Wrap 7/1/2022: White Sox 1 Giants 0

Camilo Doval RHP botched a cover play at first base in the top of the 9'th inning which opened the door for the White Sox to score the only run of the game as the offense.....well....I'm not sure we can even say the offense is on life support.  It't more like the offense just laid down and died.

The Giants did manage to load the bases in the first inning after two outs against Lance Lynn RHP but Tommy La Stella DH struck out to end the threat.   Donovan Walton SS hit a two-out double later in the game and was stranded but those were the closest they came to mounting a credible scoring threat.

Alex Cobb RHP found another way to be unlucky.  This time the BABIP gods were on his side but he joined a long list of Giants SP without any semblance of run support so his 5 shutout innings of work went for naught.  Maybe a hopeful sign for the future, though?

The cover play Doval botched wasn't the easiest one you'll see but he got a late break, which may have caused Brandon Belt 1B's throw to be a bit loopy, and he appeared to nonchalant the catch attempt and whiffed allowing the runner to reach base on what should have been an easy second out of the inning.   Instead, it was the eventual winning run.

Just my opinion, for what it's worth but a lineup with La Stella at DH with Jason Vosler 3B, Austin Wynns C and Donovan Walton SS in the 7-9 holes is not a competitive MLB lineup.

The run support might not get any better for Logan Webb RHP this afternoon as he faces Dylan Cease RHP who is having a terrific season.

Anthony DeSclafani RHP went back on the IL with another ankle flareup and Kap is talking surgery.  He was replaced on the active roster by Jason Vosler 3B who replaced the Giants hottest hitter, Evan Longoria 3B, in the lineup for apparently no other reason than the L-R matchup.

  1. Agree with you about the Giants' lackluster lineup. I am going to the next two games and at this point am losing patience with "The Churn" being what it is right now. Not happy about having a lineup with Vosler, Walton and Wynns either. Let's start by going out and getting Willson Contreras.

  2. I don’t get a chance to make it up to Sacramento all that often so it’s been great to see half the River Cats team playing in SF for the Giants! Just kidding this is a joke and Giants fans deserve much much better than a bad and boring AAA team. At this point I really wonder if they even care about winning. It seems more like ownership is content to rake in the dollars from fans who aren’t disgruntled enough to stop showing up yet. A’s ownership is getting destroyed for their actions yet across the bay the Giants owners are doing their own version of ripping off their fans yet some people are still showing up and paying top dollar to see this mediocre product. Might be time for a boycott so they feel the pain in their wallets and decide to actually invest in some real MLB players.

  3. Yankees are looking for some extra outfield assistance; maybe they have a spare starting pitcher!
    Kyle Harrison where are you?

  4. And I will say it again > David Villar should be up not Vosler!

  5. Villar bats RH, Vosler LH: Kapler/Giants are wedded to matchups.
    Hey, it worked last year.
    Different players, different year?
