The Giants mounted a 2-out rally that netted 4 runs in the 4'th inning. That was more than enough for Carlos Rodon LHP, John Brebbia RHP and Camilo Doval RHP to bring it home and a series win for the first time since the All-Star Break.
Carlos Rodon LHP- 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 10 K. ERA= 3.00. If the Giants are selling, this game should give buyers a tad more confidence after an odd last start in Arizona. Dominant performance, the type that will win you a postseason game or three. If they are not selling, maybe it gives FZ a reason to think adding a piece or two might make a difference.
Dixon Machado SS- 1 for 3, HBP. BA= .333. In desperate need of a SS who can field the position, the Giants traded Raynel Espinal RHP to the Cubs for Machado in a swap of AAA players, except Machado stepped into the Giants starting lineup immediately. He ended up playing an important role in the 4-run rally with an HBP to keep the line moving. Machado was once a somewhat highly regarded prospect for the Tigers who never quite found traction at the MLB level. This was his first MLB game since 2018. He spent 2 years in the KBO. Here is his AAA line for 2022: .312/.402/.394, 2 HR, 10 SB, 11.8 BB%, 10.5 K%, 391 PA. He gets a healthy percentage of walks for a guy with little to no power. If he can field the position at the MLB level, the power is not essential. And yes, I like Raynel Espinal but the season seemed to be wearing him down and his future with the Giants seemed to be fading.
