  1. Has there been any update on Luciano ?? Some days I check the box scores just for him and Harrison. Will be bitter sweet if we trade both for Soto

  2. Harrison’s line of 9 Ks in 3 IP is impressive at any level, even a rehabbing longtime major leaguer would have a hard time doing that at the lowest levels.

Really hoping the little layoff leads to Matos getting some traction - seemed like some quotes within the org at this time last year were bullish he would contend to be their #1 prospect…

    1. Yes indeed. I am not recalling anything quite like that in my history of following prospects Down on the Farm.

  3. Is Harrison potentially a "generational talent"?
    Is Luciano?
    Is Soto?
    Judge?
    Betts?
    Harper?
    Trout? (yes)
How was the last generational talent? Bonds? Clemens? Rivera? Jeter? Pujols? Rodriguez? Maddux? Other?

    1. I guess we'd have to define "generational talent". I guess I would define it as a player who is capable of winning multiple MVP's or Cy Young Awards. So yes, Trout is a definite. Soto has the potential. Early indications from Harrison are that he could fit into that definition too. Luciano maybe a bit more borderline. He was looking very good before missing a lot of time with a reported back injury. I'd like to see him healthy again before getting too excited about his future as injuries derail many a promising career.

  4. With the Soto trade rumors I've read and heard some very promising comments about Kyle Harrison. I heard on a podcast today that the Giants signed 2 or 3 of their 2020 high draftees including Bailey to underslot deals to save $ so they could sign Harrison out of the UCLA commit. I remember hearing that at the time. I think a good draft is determined by how many draftees make MLB. I know you're rightfully down on Bailey being the # 1 pick and his slow start. I respect your opinion a lot Doc.. I think I'd be ok with the 2020 draft if Harrison becomes the next Madbum, and Dabovich becomes a MLB reliever , Bailey doesn't make MLB. If the Giants picked Bailey to sign him to a underslot deal to save $ to sign Harrison, is this a good strategy on their part? Maybe they could have picked a better player at #1 instead.i find all this very interesting. Thanks

    1. Harrison may well end up saving the 2020 draft but in general I think it's a risky and suboptimal draft strategy. It looks like it may work out with Harrison. Maybe Grant McCray ends up saving the 2019 draft too, but that one is not looking like such a sure thing. I like what I'm seeing from Eric Silva but if they could have gotten a better prospect than Bednar in Round 1, I'm not so sure Silva makes up for that. Historically the first round pick makes or breaks a draft most of the time. To me it makes sense on doing whatever it takes to get the very best player you can in round 1 and let the rest of the draft take care of itself. And if you are sold on a kid like Harrison so much you are willing to skimp on the first rounder to sign him, why not just draft Harrison in Round 1 and give him slot money or even go over slot?

    2. Yeah I thought that to, why not draft Harrison #1 since they considered him the prize of
that draft.. Maybe they thought they were signing 2 prospects Bailey and Harrison who have 1st round talent . Bailey was rated as a mid to late 1st round pick, don't understand why he would accept a underslot deal. Guessing that Harrison scared off a lot of teams with his UCLA commit. It's odd to see a #1 pick to sign for underslot $. It's fascinating. FZ and his player development people have been doing it for a long time, and you're much more knowledgeable then I am. Thanks love following the draft

  5. Glad to see Harrison rebound as he didn't seem to have much control in the Future's Game. Let's also not forget about how good Casey Schmidt has looked - another pick from the 2020 draft. - Tommy's Giants
