Game Wrap 6/5/2022: D'Backs 6 Giants 2

The Giants waited until the 8'th inning for their bullpen failure today converting a 2-1 lead into another loss.

Alex Wood LHP allowed 1 run in 5 IP.  Scoreless frames from John Brebbia RHP and Tyler Rogers RHP got it to the fateful 8'th inning.

An overturned foul ball call on a flyball down the LF line brought Yermin Mercedes DH home from 2B to give the Giants their 2-1 lead.

Kap summoned Dominic Leone RHP to work the 8'th inning, probably as good a choice as any at his disposal.  Like all Giants relievers, Leone has been inconsistent.....and well.....it didn't go well to put it mildly.  Lefty hitting Josh Rojas PH beat the shift and singled on a bunt to the left side, I think with 2 strikes.  The sequence then went K, LD single, WP, Walk, WP, Walk.  At this point with the game still tied, Kap went to his Closer, Camilo Doval RHP.  A sac fly gave the D'backs the lead then Daulton Varsho PH/C/RF homered to put the game away and Varsho looks like he is going to have a long, fine MLB career. The D'Backs have been patient with him, but then they can afford to be.  I thought the Giants might have hit rock bottom on Sunday, but I am afraid this is even deeper in the abyss.  Just a psychologically crushing defeat!

Alex Cobb RHP tries to avoid the sweep tomorrow evening against Merrill Kelly RHP who is probably the best of the 3 pitchers the Giants face this series.

There was some intrigue before the game as Joey Bart C had a locker with his name on it and Curt Casali officially went on the IL.  Instead, Jose Alvarez LHP was reinstated from the 15-day IL while Brandon Crawford SS came off the IL to exchange roster spots with Donovan Walton IF.  Not saying Joey Bart is ready to face MLB pitching again but the last thing he needs right now is to be jerked around like that.  If they really thought they needed Alvarez that much, where was he in the 8'th inning?

  1. Not a lot of comments these days...not even ones about whether to sell or buy.

  2. We have a whole bunch of S#%t going on here!
Injuries a big issue > Yes!!
However leadership is an issue > the Captain is invisible > whether that be due to the aforementioned injuries > then lack of game playing post injury >invisible on bench!!!
No clear cheer leader > ie a Pablo> a Hunter playing the bongo's on Gary Brown's head or Pat the bat or the other guy who will go name less!!!!
Lack of a change in senior management > proactive management > Farhan are you listening?
We still have time > though fielding a glorified AAA team won't do!!!!!
2010 was torture > this is in my opinion an inability to manage a team that is bordering on disfunction!!!!!!
I do hold Farhan as culpable!!!!!!!
    Forgive the exclamations.
You cannot function on a bullpen team > Farhan talk to your Mom and see if she has some ideas > Sabremetrics dont work when the ship is going down before the rats leave!
