The Giants built a 4-0 lead as Alex Wood LHP took a no-hitter into the 7'th inning and hung on for their first win after the All-Star Break.
Wood's line: 6.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 3 K, GO/AO= 10/4. ERA= 4.11. The Cubs two runs scored on a 2-run HR by Patrick Wisdom 3B who played college ball at St Mary's and seems to thrive on hitting against the Giants.
Almost all no-hit bid require great fielding. YtY made a nice running catch to keep Wood's no-no alive although it looked like he had to change up his route at the last second. I also saw Wilmer Flores 2B make a nice diving stop going away from 1B, get up and throw out the runner that looked like he put extra effort into it.
Austin Slater CF, Yermin Mercedes DH and Thairo Estrada SS had two hits each with a 2B by Slater. Estrada added a SB(15). Estrada seems to be thriving on the regular playing time hitting .320 over his last 7 games and .308 over his last 15. Slater is 3 for 6 over his last two games after running into a bit of a slump.
Camilo Doval RHP looked confident closing it out: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, Save(13). ERA= 2.81.
Luis Gonzalez OF missed the game due to back issues and Joc Pederson OF came out with a headache after banging the LF wall on Wisdom's HR.
